Guest guest
Depends on where you live, Connie. If you're in So. Calif. I can email you privately the name of a supplier. I also know of a company in Ohio. After just having the pleasure of being audited, i will have to say - yes get that certificate you never know. Actually I believe it is a must if they arent' paying tax. Guest guest
Katy Yes, you have to have a copy on file. And that's exactly the reason that you stated. If the State audits you, you need to show "proof" that they're exempt and that's why you didn't charge the tax. Believe me, I worked in the Acct'g Dept. for a large company. M wholesale I'm new at this wholesale thing...Just filled my first order last week. Myquestion is....do we have to have an actual copy of the customer's resalecertificate on file in case we're audited? My fiance' and his Dad own anauto body shop here in town and he said that they have to provide a copy ifthey want to be tax exempt for a purchase. Seems like a lot of paperwork tome. Guest guest
Just my thoughts and experience on wholesale: Most retailers like to mark up 100%. That means wholesale price should be about half of retail. We don't do a volume discount as a rule unless someone is doing a LARGE private label and then we figure that accordingly. We DO, however have a minimum order. I think this is important. A retail store needs to carry a certain 'amount' of your product to make a showing in the store. You'll need to figure out what this amount is based upon your product and prices. The 'minimum order also keeps quasi 'retailers' from buying wholesale just to get a discount. This sometimes happens on the internet when you don't really know if the customer has a store or is just looking for wholesale discounts. Guest guest
I just posted to a bunch of groups asking about this very subject...can't remember if I asked here..old age is setting in...did I mention I'm only 30 and losing my marbles! YIKES! God help me at 40 and 50...beyond that I don't think there's any hope! Hehehehe I am looking at wholesaling my goodies. I definitely plan on a minimum order amount. I am looking at making the initial order higher than follow up orders also. I will also be requiring at tax ID number even from those out of state...just one way of trying to make sure they are a legitimate business. NO tax Id, no wholesale orders! I am charging 2/3 of my retail price to wholesalers. My time is valuable and I MUST be paid for it. I don't do this for free! I am sending several brochures to many of the tourist area shops and to many that are not so local. I go up to the Adirondacks whenever I get a chance. I spent this past weekend in Sacandaga and Old Forge - hated leaving there! Always do! Going up to Schroon Lake in July for an Adirondack Rustic Expo. Can't wait! I think there's a weekend in June, we're going up to Old Forge for the day for something going on in town. Private labeling is a whole nother discussion! If you have insurance MAKE SURE you're covered for it! Make sure you put your info on that label according to what the insurance company tells you! God forbid you don't and some ninny comes along with " I got soap in my eye and I'm gonna sue. " I love those people! NOT! Why on earth would you think putting soap in your eye was ok? Don't give me that handmade bologna either! Sticking your finger in your eye hurts so why wouldn't something made from oils and chemicals hurt? DUH! Gotta be smarter than the thing you're trying to use! Some people just aren't equipped I tell ya! :-) ~Shyra A. Guest guest
Good morning, I am totally a newbie to all of this but very interested a few barber shops want to carry a few of my products in the city. For example: A group wants to purchase say 12 of a $6.00 soap. You would sell them to the group for $4.00 each? What would your minimum be? Do you expect payment at delivery? When doing this are you able to keep your label on the item or do they expect to use their label to reorder? Thanks " Shyra A. ~ The Aromatic Mills ~ " <aromaticmills@...> wrote: I just posted to a bunch of groups asking about this very subject...can't remember if I asked here..old age is setting in...did I mention I'm only 30 and losing my marbles! Guest guest
I do not deliver. I ship only. I don’t have time to drive all over the earth. I live near Albany so there is a great area here to cover and it can be VERY time consuming going some where. My hubby works 15 minutes from our house. During rush hour is can take him 1 ½ hours to get home or it can take 20 minutes….traffic here is a zoo! The Northway ain’t always the best way to travel either. I sell my products wholesale at 2/3 my retail price. I don’t have any soaps higher than $4.50 retail right now. I need to be paid for my time and not just my ingredients. I don’t do craft fairs as there’s no guarantee that I’ll even make my booth fee back. The weather can drive people away also and there’s no way of knowing 6 weeks ahead of time if the weather will be nasty. I am thinking about doing 2-3 craft fairs this fall with my mother. We’d share the booth. She makes jewelry. We figure this way neither one of us will be completely out the booth fee. We’re bound to make at least something! Also, ALL orders must be prepaid. I am not making $150 worth of soap and then get screwed over. I do not accept checks from anyone including my own mother! They bounce and it costs me money and time. I take credit cards and PayPal. I will take a bank check or USPS Postal Money Order ONLY. No other Money Orders are acceptable. Yes I am fussy. If they don’t like it, buy from someone else. I provide excellent customer service and jump through hoops for my customers. I don’t sell myself short. I am not a pee-on who takes crap from anyone! You have to have a backbone to make it in business. My dad has none! His business is in the toilet and he should be making serious money….he barely breaks even as a mechanic. He charges people for like nothing. He totally screws himself. He always says the customers will go elsewhere…… Meanwhile, he’s had many of his customers for over 20 years. So I don’t think they all would jump ship on him. Many of them travel to have HIM work on their cars – we’re talking 30- 60 minute trip for these folks. He used to work for a guy in Albany when I was a kid and the business went under. When he opened his own place, many of those customers went to him even though he has the business closer to his house. Oh it wasn’t his business that went under….want to clarify that! There are customers out there that want something for nothing. I do NOT cater to them at all. Go to the dollar store if you want some cheap crappy thing that is made by some poor child in China or India or wherever who gets paid 10 cents a month to make the stuff. These are not my customers. People don’t blink at spending $4 on 2 oz of lotion at BBW….these are my types of customers – folks who will pay and not complain. I shop there and never even thought about how expensive it is. The first order has a minimum of $150 not including shipping. Follow up orders have a $100 minimum. There’s also mins on the number of products they can order. For example, they can’t get just 1 bar of each scent. They must get 6 or depending on which they are. This goes for all of the products. I am not making 1 bath fizzie in 10 scents. People will ask for this also. I will send samples with their order. Not full size items! I offer my regular labels at no additional charge. I also offer a line that is Adirondack in style for no additional charge. Other than that it is considered custom work and there’s charges. If anyone EVER takes my labels off and replaces them, they better run and hide! I will sue so fast! I have a clause I am working on sticking in my order form about this. Don’t you dare take my work and then claim it as your own!!!!!! I’ll hunt you down and slap you silly with a dead fish. Why? Because fish stinks! LOL I am not joking about the clause and suing. My work is copyrighten as are my labels. I do customer labeling so there is no need to rip me off. I would have a COW if I ever found someone doing this. Something like this just happened to poor Marti. She’s on a bunch of the groups. Some claimed that they were her! They used her business name and re-sold the products the loser bought from Marti. I’d sue that nitwit fast! ~Shyra A.
