Guest guest
Hi Marsha, I don't really know any specifics about Von Willebrands, either. I just remember that I was told that it wasn't x-chromosome related like hemophilia was. Like, with hemophilia, only boys can be affected. Girls can be carriers, but will never have hemophilia. Because it's x-linked, a girl may inherit one defective X, but will have a healthy X too, so she's a carrier, but no disease. With boys, if they inherit a defective X, well, they don't have another. So they have the disease. Yours might have come from your mother, but that doesn't mean that it's x-linked. Perhaps it's autosomal recessive, so your mom has the disease, but it took a recessive gene from your father to pass it along? Or maybe it's autosomal dominant, so all it took was the defective gene passed down from your mother?? Oh what the hell. I don't know. LOL And it's too damn late to be talking genetics!! :-) Marsha Katzman wrote: > Hi Yes Von Willebrands disease is similar to hemophilia.
