Bob,

I do think we were twins separated at birth (after all I have twin daughters myself, lol). Don't mess around with the Sleep Apnea........it affects so many things. Be sure the docs are all aware of it. I have been on a CPAP now for 10 years. I had Sleep Apnea for 5 before we even knew I had it.

My memory was drastically affected, I would pass out if I sat for more than a few minutes and wake up disoriented, my mood was bad and I got angry a lot of the time. Be careful!

hi turk,,,

everybody tells me sleep apnea is dangerous and does contribute to heart

troubles..

i did two nights of sleep studies......once without the mask and then a

month later with the mask...i almost never breathe through my nose and

couldnt handle the mask....i layed awake most of the night trying to figure

out how to sleep with the mask on and yet still breath through my

mouth....when i figured it out i was able to fall asleep.......

the sleep doc asked me to rate the mask on a one to ten scale with 10 being

the worst....i said 1000. he laughed and said, lets wait a year...

i still swear these guys just pass me around cause i have medicare and a

good supplement...after my hundred bucks in january they get it all and

nothing comes out of my pocket...

i have severe arthritus as well (in my hips) and the docs here in scranton

prescribed vioxx. and it worked....i was pain free for about 3

weeks.....then i went to philly to see the congestive heart

specialist....when he saw the vioxx he became real concerned....seems it

makes the kidneys want to retain water...so im off that and back to

ibuprofen (and i eat them like candy)...and now i see a law firm on tv

advertising for people that have taken vioxx to call immediately....it

never ends i guess......

i dont know what to say about the sleep apnea,,,,exept for an occasional

night that i cant sleep, i feel just fine..... and hey,,,im closer to you

than most of these gals......you're welcome to come here and clean any time

you care to.....

and welcome back bill,,,,,,i to missed your humor.......

It also affects the cells in your brain and

The plus side is that when you do something

about it finally you feel so much more rested and have more energy.

Your memory will also improve greatly. It's a must to take care of

Bob,

My dad had the same problem and elected not to do anything about it. He has a rare form of Parkinsons called MSA (multiple system atrophy). Very few people have it so there is little known about the stages and life expectancy. There is also no way to really treat it. In his case he chooses not to do anything about it.....he knows he will die soon anyway and with his other problems feels this is minor. My mom on the other hand see how it adversely affects all of his other problems.

Since you can't tolerate the CPAP....which by the way lulls me to sleep now.....have you considered the surgery. When I was first diagnosed over 10 years ago the positive outcomes of the surgery were minor and not worth it. Today they have improved the procedure and the odds. If my weight loss surgery does not improve mine, then I am considering the surgery.

hi stu,,,

im at a loss as to what to do.....

the docs here in scranton put me on meds and i go to the heart failure

specialist in phila and find out the meds are either wrong or not good for

me.....

as far as the sleep thing,,,,i wake up refreshed and only get up to use the

bathroom once or twice (and thats good for a diabetic from what im

told).... i dont feel anything and im always fresh when i wake up......

and you are right,,,even the sleep doc said if i lose the hundred pounds

plus id probably not have the apnea or the dependance on insulin......the

boat goes into the water later this week,,,then i start living on fruit,

and diet soda, at least four days a week, anyway..

ive had hodgkins disease and they had to give me adriamycin. the heart

failure guy seems to think that is what damaged the electrical system in my

heart....i had no idea i had a problem til a year ago when i was in the

hos;pital with pneumonia......i got zapped twice within a week of being out

of the hospital and not since.....my breathing is bad when i exert

myself,,,but again that is probably the weight again.....

what did you mean by ,,,,you went out 12 times " " " i didnt understand what

you meant by that..

and all restrictiions have been lifted for me except for chain saws.....it

seems the vibration of them or jack hammer type machines will cause a

zap....and i dont like them........

I also have Sleep Apnea. I went thru the sleep studies, and got a

CPAP machine. From that moment on, I didn't get a decent nights sleep.

I was awake all night fighting to breath with the machine. After 30

days I felt like I was near death from exhaustion. When I stopped

using it, I began to feel better. ('Course two years later I had a

heart attack, CHF and VT.)

I think I would have done much better if I had just lost the 30 pounds

that the sleep clinic recommended. Seems as though Sleep Apnea is

related to excess weight.

Also of note..I videotape myself falling asleep while editing

videotapes late at night and found that I 'went out' 12 times in 2

hours, never for than 5 seconds. That is what led me to have the sleep

study

I'm also not fond of chainsaws. " going out? "

Remember the story of the shoe maker and the elves? Well I began to

fall alseep while video editing. I would wake up and check the scene,

but it was always done correctly. I began to suspect elves were

editing the tapes cause I had been asleep, so i set a trap to

videotape them doing it. I video taped myself while editing...lo and

behold, my eyes would droop then shut, only to pop open 3 to 5 seconds

later. (I thought I had been sleeping for 15 or 20 minutes at a time.)

It happened 12 times in a two hour period (often with no remembrance).

Twas then that I realized that I had a problem that needed

attention... For the most part, this has been a " while I am tired "

problem, and does not occurr when I am well rested.

To Sue, someone mentioned that they were taking trazadone. I took it

along time ago and it really gave me dreamless sleep. You might ask

your doctor about it... oh and hubby might want to try it too.. the

side effect in men is like viagra. Only their too sleepy to do

anything about it. lol

Geesh Bob!!! I never heard the retention/kidney thing about Vioxx...

my husband is also a CHF patient and has arthritis for which cardio

started him on Vioxx while he was in hsp w/the CHF and A-fib 2 yrs

ago this past Jan... because he's also on coumadin for the A-fib she

stated Vioxx was the best med ... less conflict w/the blood

thinner... anyway... when all the " stuff " hit the fan a little while

back about Vioxx possibly causing stroke/MI we asked and she stated

that because he's already on coumadin not to worry 'bout the effects

of Vioxx... but she won't increase his dosage now that it's not

working so well for him at 25mg X 2 ... anyway... guess I'll have to

re-read the side effects 'cause I was unaware of the retention thingy
