Sharon;

Last night CNN had a female correspondent go around Pakistan and talk to

people, mostly young people about 9/11 and their reaction to it. She didn't

bait them, or provoke them to bring out their worst anti-American feelings.

She asked young women in college classes what they thought about UBL.

Uniformly they discussed how they loved him and supported his work. These

were relatively modern women in a university setting. She interviewed young

boys aged about 10 to14 from an elite private school. These are the future

leaders of Pakistan. They too, all supported the attach on the US. One of

the boys wanted to grow up to be like UBL, (so stated one of the university

women). The other suggested that it would have been better if UBL's guys

had killed more Americans.

Personally, I would rather that the terrorists were nuts. They aren't.

They are Klingons. They have a cultural heritage that is diametrically

opposed to everything we hold dear. Not all muslims support terror; but

many, many find the values we consider central to our culture anathema to

Islam. That is a far more pessimistic prospect for the future. This

struggle has been going on for a millenium and a half. Don't expect things

to get worked out any time soon. Until some interfaith understanding based

on respect is found, I'll settle for effective military action.

Have you ever heard the expression,

" Stupid is as stupid does. "

Well, maybe we can sum it up with,

" Evil is as evil does. "

Hi Sharon,

I can only give you a very unstudied opinion resulting from having taken

psychiatry in med school, but I would think that a psychiatric analysis

would have to include a couple of personality disorders. In particular, a

Narcissistic and perhaps an antisocial personality disorder. Or we can just

all agree that he is " nucking futs " and soon to be known as " Osama Bin

Goner. "

Check out, sociopath and/or psychopath. I believe in all sincerety these

labels are clinically relevant and, unfortunately, the world is has plenty

of them. Steve Lumsden

Hi, thanks for all the commentary on ubl and a psychiatric diagnosis. it

seems that the consensus pulls for both a psychiatric diagnosis and a

different view of the world. i guess the old saying, 'just because you're

paranoid doesn't mean there aren't people out there trying to get you ' has

some validity in that you can be mentally ill but yet still functional

enough to have a view of the world that could be based in some form of

reality. the fact that there are many who apparently align themselves with

his acts and thoughts is what i find truly disconcerting.(ie in pakistan per

dr. feinberg).
