Guest guest
Kathie; Not to worry.... When your ICD has to be replaced, they replace the entire unit! No need to worry about capacitors. The surgery is very simple out-patient surgery as long as the leads don't have to be replaced. (Leads are replaced every 10 years or so - as needed). They pop the old unit out of the "pocket" and put a new one in - hook up the leads and test the unit - you are out in about an hour. I was in the hospital by 10am, and hour surgery time and recovered 2 hours - on my way home by 2:30. The recovery was quick because they give you versed, a drug that puts you to sleep and helps you forget! Because you are not put out completely, you recover much quicker. The surgery is no where near as painful as the the first implant. In other words: It is all a piece of cake! ~guin Kathie Lazelle wrote: HANK <kg6ee@...> wrote: How many of you have kept your old zapper when it was replaced? Mine was taking a bit too long to recharge (or recycle). Isn't it too bad that they can't recycle these with new batteries and give them to 3rd world countries or may be they could use them in some of the larger pets (Like a GREAT DANE). A Vet may know. To those who did keep their old one, I'll bet you couldn't resist passing it around to the group at coffee asking if they could identify what it was. After they had thoroughly examined it, I just love to see the expression on their faces when you tell them what it is and where it had been. See how many reach for a napkin to wipe their hands..... (GRIN) Hank Hank, Did you have your's replaced because the capacitor was taking too long to recharge? How long did you have to stay in the hospital? Was it day surgery? Overnight? Or what? I have to have mine replaced for that reason. I have had mine for almost three years. And I only worried about the batteries running out. Now I hear about the capacitor!!?? Guest guest
Anytime you are having surgery is scary. Being afraid of the unknown is frightening. But what exactly are you afraid of? ~guin Kathie Lazelle wrote: >Guin.....Thanks for the info.. Guest guest
Exactly what you said! I am afraid of the unknown... And I have had some experience with unexpected things happening. So I learned to expect the unexpected. And I am crazy!!! So don't listen to me. I know its a mental thing and I have to get over it on my own. This whole ICD thing is very stressful! Mostly I try not to think about it.... then stuff comes up that makes you have to. I'm sure you all know what I mean. >> ----------------------------------------------------------------------->> >
Guest guest
It sounds as though you have a good hangle on your fears. Yes I know exactly what you mean. If it makes you feel better - it all sounds very healthy. I the more you know, the more you know what can go wrong. But try not to go looking for trouble. I think you can remain more calm with a positive attitude! Keep up the good work! ~guin Kathie Lazelle wrote: Exactly what you said! I am afraid of the unknown... Hey thanks for understanding and taking > time to answer back Well, you could handle it like my Rich does (he's the family Zappee). He goes to the bar everyday. Sigh.
