Guest guest
ACC paradigm and position paper continues to unite profession For the first time in the history of the profession, one document has the potential to unite the profession behind a single expression of the meaning and scope of chiropractic. As we discussed in the last issue of the "WCA Weekly Report," the Association of Chiropractic College's (ACC) "Position Paper on Chiropractic" sets down in clear, unambiguous language, a workable definition of chiropractic, including the vital role of the subluxation correction. In February 2000, when the World Chiropractic Alliance (WCA) presented testimony to the Veterans' Administration, we used the position paper to reinforce our argument that chiropractic should not be limited to use only as a "treatment for neuromusculoskeletal conditions." It was important to us that there be some direct reference to the correction of vertebral subluxations in the VA legislation, as there should be in ALL legislation affecting chiropractic. The ACC document clearly validates this position. In addition to the WCA, the American Chiropractic Association, International Chiropractors Association, Federation of Straight Chiropractors and Organizations, and the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations have endorsed it. Now, state associations and boards are joining the movement and showing their support of the ACC position paper. On May 10th, 2001, for instance, the Montana Board of Chiropractors voted unanimously to endorse the document. "We are elated that the profession is finally taking steps to recognize chiropractic as the profession that focuses particular attention on the subluxation rather than on treating disease," stated Spence Jahner, D.C., Montana member of the WCA Board of Governors. "We hope all other state boards see the value of a clear voice in chiropractic which will set us apart from all disease care professions." The World Chiropractic Alliance thinks the ACC position paper -- and what it can do to unite and protect chiropractic -- is so important that we've added a special section to our website, which contains excerpts of the paper, as well as a link to the ACC site.
