Dr. Ulrich,

"A pox on all your houses?"

Isn't that a little harsh?

Ouch.

Your first contribution, Dr. Ulrich, to egroups is to cast a vexation upon those who comment on a subject directly relating to the pursuit of Truth in science and art? At least we're engaged in conversation and debate, which is the function of the forum.

The issue is about a collegue who disseminates misinformation and bends the truth. Why not reveal and expose these types through our new venue of public exposure? Do we let him carry on? I thought Dr. Freeman's observations were piercing and at the same time hilarious. How about increasing the level of what we expect from members of our professional community, whether it is their legislative testimony or claims of meritorious achievement?

As for your comments...

I personally feel that science has only helped chiropractic in the last 20 years, particularlly the last 10. As a result, I now have MD's refering new patients to me because of good science that has been published in reputable periodicals. As far as I'm concerned, a new patient is a new patient. I don't care where they come from.

Thanks goes out to all those colleagues within our profession that have had the wherewithall and gumption to get invovlved in research. It takes a great deal of umpff and ambition to do something as dry and painstaken. I am extremely appreciative of those currently doing research and those who have done research in the past, which has demonstrated the efficacy of chiropractic. Is research the end-all be all to our advancement? I don't think so. But it should definitely remain a key element in our institution's overall strategic planning.

As for the "cults of salvation" you speak of, I think they too have their place and purpose in our growth and preservation. As for the over cited notion that "personalities and techniques" divide our community, I think in our current environment this claim is way overrated and out-dated. In my opinion, chiropractors from diverse backgrounds can, in fact, get together fraternally and support a single cause for the betterment of our profession. However, throw managed care into the mix and now you've got a real problem.

Managed care has replaced the "technique wars" as the proverbial wrench in our gears.

For you to simply critisize both ends of the spectrum and then disparagingly cast a "pox" on those who debate, what a cop out.

Hyperbole and obfuscation is endemic on all sides of this profession, from the scientifically tunneled visioned to the cults of salvation through personality or technique. A pox on all your houses.
