Guest guest
Dear , >>Have you considered going back to work as a reporter in the Albany area are you just as happy being an editor?<< Yes, I've considered going back to journalism ... I would love to be a features writer for a newspaper or magazine. But I love working from home so much, and my husband and I only have our one car out here (my husband's car is back in Indiana), and that would make it a challenge if we both worked outside the home. And plus, when we start having children (maybe next year or the year after), this work-from-home job will be wonderful because I can stay home with our children and still bring in an income. And I wonder if I've gotten so used to working from home that going back out into an office every day would be miserable for me? I don't know. I do love this job that I have, but I miss writing. I do things like Themestream and The Vines to have an outlet for my writing, which is wonderful, and I keep a journal. But I do miss writing features articles and meeting new people. Working at the local paper here would be a great way for me to learn more about the community and meet more people. I've learned quite a lot from this editing job, though, from reading all of these different books. And I love my coworkers. My hours are so flexible -- I could work from midnight to 9 a.m. if I wanted to, as long as I got my work done! :-) So yes, I've thought about returning to newspaper reporting, but I just don't know ... but right now, I'm content with my job and am enjoying it! >>See, I left my former employer (right here in town and it's a MAJOR employer in the county) due to sexual harassment from a supervisor which caused me to start having anxiety attacks and depression. Now I'm on long-term disability thru the employer's insurance and also on Workman's Comp AND involved in a lawsuit against the company and the supervisor as well. How would I handle that part???<< Wow, that is a rough situation. Sorry you're going through all of that. I'm not sure what to say ... I bet the reporter will ask you what you did for a living before you started this business (that's a question that I would definitely ask if I were interviewing someone), and you could just tell him/her where you used to work and what you did there as an employee and leave it at that. If the reporter has some integrity, he/she should respect the fact that you don't want all of that stuff on the record. At least, if I were a reporter and were interviewing you, I would be respectful of information that you didn't want me to include in my article. Anyway, that's a hard situation ... I don't know if my comments helped ... but keep me posted and let me know if you do contact the local newspaper! Good luck! nne in Albany
