Guest guest
Terry, when i make Vanilla Soaps, they turn a dark brown, In bath fizzies they turn kind of a tannish color, In lotion bars and lotions, it remains white. If it is gonna turn brown it wont take very long to do so. Maybe a couple days at most. The way I see it, thats a sign of a good quality Vanilla FO. Dont know if you could mention that to the customers.. I have not made bath powders tho. Is that like bath salts? Shaye question about vanilla On several lists there has been a lot of talk lately about vanilla turning brown in soaps. I went ahead and made a vanilla bath powder....anyone know if I should maybe warn buyers that the powder may eventually turn brown or does anyone know if a powder with vanilla will do this or not. Also anyone know if vanilla will have this effect on bath salts? Terri...whos been shakin bath salts all day....will be shakin in her sleep tonight LOL I finally went to mixing 2lbs at a time in a bowl cause my hands went numb! Guest guest
nope not at all......bath powder is just what it says...powder...for after the bath..like talcum, but without the harmful talc. I use a 50/50 mix of corn starch and baking soda. dump both into a bowl and mix well with a spoon. Then I run it through a flour sifter (baking soda likes to get clumps in it). Then add scent (EO or FO) mixing again with a spoon.....then run it 3 more times through the flour sifter. I might over do it with the sifting, but I've never had clumps of scent oil left when I do it this way. I've seen several different recipes for bath powder....some call for adding a bit of clay and some had less baking soda....not even sure where I got this recipe, but it's simple to remember.....a standard box of each and it fills 8 powder shakers...I sell each shaker for $2.50...not bad considering I pay ..39cents for backing soda and .49cents for corn starch. The shaker container is .99 cents so I've got a good profit margin going here on them Terri question about vanilla > > > On several lists there has been a lot of talk lately about vanilla turning > brown in soaps.
