Guest guest
Thanks for the information Kim. I got some more oils today from Kae, and I am going nuts because I want to use them all, but am having hand surgery on Tues, so any soapmaking will have to be done this weekend. Thanks again. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, Don't use any more than 25% coconut oil in your recipe. I would go heavy on the olive oil . And have fun making up your own recipe on the lye cal. Kim Kim Fuoco www.honeybearsoap.com need help with receipe > I just got some coconut oil today and would like to add it to my soaps. Guest guest
Kathy, Keep us posted about your surgury. And yes keep your coconut to 25% or less and you'll be fine. I can't believe the lather it added to my soaps. I don't make a batch without it now. Terri > Thanks for the information Kim. Guest guest
Well, I still am not geting any mail, but Im gonna put in my 2 cents for what its worth. I make cp and until recently did only goatmilk soap. a few years ago I did rebatch with milk... I have always wrapped in saran (stretch tite) when I package my soap. I let it cure for at least 6 weeks and Hve never never had any go bad by being wrapped. And you can still smell the soaps thru the wrap. AND for any lurkers that may be out there that think crisco makes a low quality soap because that is what someone told them. Total Bunk!. I use crisco along with olive, palm and coconut. AND it is as good a quality soap as any others out there. Certainly dont need any " My way or the Highway " attitudes out there, and htey know who they are if htey are still subbed on this list. ok off my soapbox and back down to earth with the real people. Oops almost burnt dinner! Gotta go! Shaye The Soap Shack www.mysoapshack.com > I just got some coconut oil today and would like to add it to my soaps. Guest guest
Well said about the crisco Shaye!! Feel free to pull that soap box out at anytime hun...specially when it comes to crico! One of our list members makes totally crisco soap and I started out with the exact same recipe she uses. Tonys no fail recipe. In fact it is the best " starter " recipe I can think of. It traces within a few minutes. It will really give a new soaper a good feel for the soap making process without breaking their bank. One other thing about this soap...it is the only soap that I have ever made that I had to turn off the jet in the hot spa because the bubbles started to overflow the tub LOL Terri...still reading and posting from *sigh*
Guest guest
Oh, Shaye! I laughed so hard at your end comment here! Sorry, but I oftentimes tend to get carried away, and end up messing up things like FOOD all the time.....hehehe! I have only tried using shortening one time and the soap I made turned real dry and crumbly. It was awful, and I never tried another batch again. That was about 2 years ago, I think. The one thing that I can't quite get, though, is *how* you calculate for the lye. Do you figure like 1/2 and 1/2 on the oils in the shortening? That is, the shortening I have is soybean/cottonseed... Well, don't let the gators get'cha! Many people are VERY opinionated without really knowing *why*! <G> Kae <============================> Olive Tree Soaps Web Site: http://olivetreesoaps.com Email: kae@... <============================> Re: need help with receipe Certainly dont need any " My way or the Highway " attitudes out there, and htey know who they are if htey are still subbed on this list. ok off my soapbox and back down to earth with the real people. Guest guest
Terri? You have a hot tub? WAHHHHHHHHH!!!! I want one so bad!!! Ooops, I haven't posted about my reasoning here for NEEDING a hot tub, have I? Well, since Mark has had the injury, I have had to do " man " jobs...That is what I call all the jobs Mark used to do. The last " man " job was.......... (don't laugh) cutting firewood. Yup. Just call me Sven! (I have even fallen three trees) We live in the woods and when our supply of firewood was looking a little lean, we went out in January (remember how warm it was then?) and I cut up a bunch of wood to get us through to the end of March. Oh, and the trees I cut were seasoned on the stump...ie, more dead than alive!!! So, I NEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDD a hot tub. Ah, I feel better now. Thanks for listening! Guest guest
Kae LOL. Me too!! my poor family has to put up with me! I just use the Soybean part to calculate for shortening. It works out pretty good. Yea, I know we all have differnt things that work for us, each making a soap with great quality, but what just got to me was that this guy stating that basically his was better than any made with crisco. You know, come to think of it, I sent them a bar of my soap once with a trade we did, and I bet they were scared to even use it! hehe prolly is now in the landfill. sheesh. Yep I got it out of my system. Done venting about that i guess. LOL > Oh, Shaye! > > I laughed so hard at your end comment here! I am not trying to be a smart guy, but would like to ask a few questions before I reply. Have you been soaping long? Do you know how to superfat and the difference between that and lye reduction? I surely do not want to insult anyone with an answer that you feel is much too simplistic for your experience level.
