Shaye....I just ordered unity's lotion base at $13/gal. Used it a couple of

years ago and liked the consistency. I have been having problems with my

recipe for homemade separating. I saw recently on someone's post before I

went no-mail that the temps might be the proble, I make a foot mouse that

require 160 degrees on both oils and water. do you think this could be the

problem . I now only make my homemade fo family and my friend's healthfood

shop as I am afraid of separation or spoilage. What do you think? I am using

Sunflower power(the recipe from the sage at x-mas)

Thanks

Deb I suppose it could be. I have got to the point where I dont take the

temps I go by feel. I melt the oils/ wax just till everything is melted

good, and Use the water at room temp. pouring slowly as I mix with the

stick blender. then besure an mix it really good. then by that time, its

cooled enuf to add the (I have been using Germal II) preserve. and then

recently I have been using Xanathan gum. I mix that in after as well and

mix mix mix. Maybe ive been lucky, but I havnt had any sepration since

batch 1 a couple of years ago. Just recently I have gottem my formula to

where I REALLY REALLY like it, and so do others. I get rave reviews on it a

lot.

Good luck!

Deb thats really good, $13 per gal. I have never used unity's stuf so I

have no idea what it's like. I have to refigure my costs on my gallons cuz

now I'm using the oils more in bulk than before when I had figured it. I

put an email to one of my customers that buys the lotion base by the gal.

from me. Asked her if it has ever separated on her. I'll let you know what

she says. Also I have been please with both germaben and germal II for

preserving. No spoilage.

Hmm should I or should I not tell her where I get those great little cobalt

jars for my lip balms LOL. HMMMM OK. I get them from E.D. Luce. LOL

Thanks! Nope I use paper I get from the resume paper section at staples.

The confetti Ivory Paper. And then I print my labels and them run them thru

my stickermaker. They are also laminated to ward off greasy hands. Its

funny cuz I am always debating on switching from the oval cobalt to the

bullet style so I can use bands... Seems like it would be easier than what

I do... I really do spend a lot of time monkeying on my labels. But it has

been worth it many times over. It can make or break a sale.

Re: your site

oh...also Shaye-on your lotion bottles-LOVE YOUR LABELS! Are you using the

regular address labels or cutting a whole sheet, I want to use a watercolor

I did and also want to add a boarder . I have been using a plain design I

made and even though the black ink is less expensive on the parchment cigar

style bands, I really want a more finished label the size you are using.

Thanks

Thanks shaye- did you see the recipe using the sunflower from the sage at

x-mas?

This is it...

SUNFLOWER POWER LOTION

1.3 gr citric acid

9 gr steric

20 gr e-wax

10 gr glycerine

65 gr sunflower oil

10 gr coconut oil

380 gr water

3.75 Ger II

2.5 gr desired aroma

my problem is my new scale only measures in .5 increments on the gram

side(peluzi scale) and I should try to convert it somewhere as I have to try

and round it off.

It is very light and takes forever to get thick. Doesn't the zanthium gum

thicken? I use my kitchen aid too. I do great with my foot cream and use the

same recipe but sub my infused herbsl olive oil and use lemon EO when I do

my gardener's hand cream . It was just too thick for an all around lotion so

that is why I have been messing with some recipes. Any help you could

suggest on this one I kind of like would be greatly appreciated.

There was a lot of controversy on the germabin ll and GSE and I ended up

getting some GSE from FNWL and up until then was using citricidel from the

healthfood store(only 30% GSE)

Yep I went and looked at that recipe.... hmm Im not sure why they want to

put citric acid in it. I know for ph but sometimes it dosnt agree with the

preservative. Im not claiming to be a chemist or even knowlagable on that

but I do read chemist's emails..

Yes! the Xanathan is for thickening. Dosnt take much either, then I let it

sit for a day before I mix with fo's or anything.

Yea the scale thing is a big help too. My hubby got me a good one for

mybirthday last year and I love love loveit! It weighs in one gram

incriments. He also got one that weighs in .1 gram incremtnes but it only

goes up to 150 grams. so there isnt too too much use in that one. But for

tiny amounts is great.

oooooo. where in the world do you get a stickermaker. I would be smart to

get one as I lost a lot of my labels during a 2 day show up in the

Adirondacks that was total drizzle and even though I had my new e-z up tent,

people's breath with the humidity made a lot of condensation and I had drips

all over my ink jet labels. I also want to figure out how to do round labels

as i would like to start making my hand salve in 1 oz tins.

Hmmm should I tell ya all my secrets??? LOL Just kidding. More and more

people are finding out about these. I got mine from Pbplastic.com . The

model I have is the Xyron 1200. You can also find them on ebay which is

where I got my first one from. I now have 2 machines so that I dont have to

keep switching the cartriges. I hae one decicated to just sticker, and one

dedicated to sticker one side, laminate the other. I make labels for a

candlemaker in PA also so this was really a neccessity to do this. There are

other cartige options also. Its not real cheep but to me it beats having

labels printed in 1000 runs, and like I said before, a good label can make

or break a sale.

Good luck ladies!

Thanks Shaye: I did a search on ebay for them and came up w/ a bunch! I was

looking at the Xyron 500, as it's the cheapest, but I'd like it to laminate

the top & sticker the bottom. Do you know if this one does it? Or do I

have to get a more sophisticated model? This is definitely worth the

investment. Thanks.

I think the 500 is only sticker. Also I have heard of people having

trouble with the cartriges sticking and stuf. I think you'd be much happier

with the larger. I debated on the 850 but i figured i'd get more bang for

my buck with the 1200 cuz it is wider.

Look under .5 oz jars... they have cobalt or green

dedicated to sticker one side, laminate the other. I make labels for a

candlemaker in PA also so this was really a neccessity to do this. There are

other cartige options also. Its not real cheep but to me it beats having

labels printed in 1000 runs, and like I said before, a good label can make

or break a sale.

Good luck ladies!

RE: your site

Thanks Shaye: I did a search on ebay for them and came up w/ a bunch! I was

looking at the Xyron 500, as it's the cheapest, but I'd like it to laminate

the top & sticker the bottom. Do you know if this one does it? Or do I

have to get a more sophisticated model? This is definitely worth the

investment. Thanks.
