Guest guest
Hi Kae, This is Kathy. I have talked to you several times , and you have been very helpful with all my problems. I am glad to see your name here. I just joined this group a couple of weeks ago, and spend most of my time here. The people have been great, and I am sure you will love it. Hope to talk to you soon. Kathy Marva is the one that gave you my name.
Guest guest
Kae, Still having problems with that olive oil soap. I guess I will just give up on it. I have been using some Palm oil lately, and having better luck. And I just ordered some coconut oil, so I am anxious to see if I can make a mess out of that too. Somedays I get real discouraged with it all, but I still can't seem to stop. I am sure I will get better with time, at least I hope so. Guest guest
Hi Kathy! Good to see you! Gee, I haven't talked to you for awhile...So nuts around here. My computer time is sporadic and short, at best. Even with two networked computers, there is little time, as Mark uses one a lot, and my daughter, , homeschools and uses the other! UGH!!! How is your soapmaking coming? I had to make up a couple of small batches this morning to help fill an order. First I have made soap in some time! Marva is really great, isn't she? I met her a couple of years ago on the Milksoaps list. Guest guest
Kae, I tried the milk last night in my olive oil soap instead of water, and instead of that horrible gel ball I had before , I got a gel that was at least pourable. They still look good this morning, so today I am going to do the other batch. I have been hanging on to them hoping something would work. Thanks for all the advice. Guest guest
Hi Kathy! Sorry to disappear for days at a time... So much happening around here! Making soap is so much like learning to cook. It seems like you have your winners and losers. Hate the losers! But, as time you on, you begin to get better and better at it! So, when you make your castille style soap, you are making it to rebatch? The first soap I ever made was Castille a la Norma Coney. I spend three days slowly stirring down the oil into the soap. But, it was one of the most beautiful soaps! And, I did rebatch it, too. Soaps that don't have some milk in them are pretty tough to rebatch...least for me, anyway. Guest guest
I started out rebatching my olive and soapcrafters suggested to use milk in 100% olive rebatch to eleviate shrunken head syndrome as well as pliability and dry time.1/2 cup to a pound of noodles. Guest guest
One more question about the milk, there is no chance it will spoil , will it? Also, do you do M & P? I can't remember if you did or not. But I wanted to make some oatmeal and honey, and I don't know if the honey has to be mixed with something first, so that it mixes with the soap . I think I have read before that some people had trouble getting the honey to mix with the soap. Kathy
Guest guest
Kathy, That is great! The animal fats seem to make a difference in the rebathing process. Do remember that adding milk to the soap will darken the color a little. Guest guest
Hey! No the milk should not spoil. Never has on me anyway. Also, I have never mixed honey w/ soap so I cant answer that one. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I have done little M & P, but milk shouldn't go bad in it. As far as the honey and oatmeal, I am not too sure about those, either, but I think it takes a little tinkering to get the oatmeal to suspend and not sink to the bottom. Anyone else know about M & P?
