Guest guest
Pete -- your message concerns me. I've been on Cordarone for 8 months. My insurance carrier was switched recently and I ended up ordering my meds through a bulk mail order pharmacy. They sent me Pacerone instead of Cordarone. I was told there is no difference, but maybe I need to call my cardiologist and see what he thinks. Anyone else encountered this??? Guest guest
Anita, My husband just order his Cordarone through a mail order place and his bottle says Amiodarone.....Is this the same thing as Cordarone or is it a generic? Kathy Re: Cordarone and generics Pete E. -- My cardiologist told me that Pacerone (generic) was OK to take instead of Cordarone. The mail order company I have to use is Pharmacare Direct out of Fairfield, OH. Guest guest
Kathy -- The FDA lists amiodarone as the antiarrhythmic chemical agent, and Cordarone and Pacerone are trade/brand names. In other words, it's all the same. How long has your husband been on Cordarone? I've only been on this med for 8 months and am always interested in long-term effects. I'm doing fine so far -- I take 200 mg. per day. Guest guest
Anita, My husband is taking 200 mg. per day, also. He has only been taking the medicine for 3 months. So far, he feels much better since the medicine. He was having several dizzy spells a day. Now he has none. He also has the ICD. Thanks for the info, we were concerned. Guest guest
Hi Anita: I have been on amiodarone for 3 years now, and suffered no bad side effects. I take 400mg daily. Guest guest
Kathy, Just because the chemical agent is the same does not mean the actions of the medication are the same. There are many variables including methods of manufacture and binding agents used. I would agree that most generics are close enough to the original formulations (i.e. name brand) but some are not. And some may act differently for different people. I used to work in the retail drug industry, and I remember a case, but I cannot remember the drug, in which the Doctors wanted people to take the generic because it seemed to work better then the name brand. If a change in medication from the name brand to the generic or generic to name brand seems to make a difference I would not assume they are the same. Guest guest
Patsy...Cordorone is an anti-arrhythmia drug given to people who suffer from rather serious arrhythmias. Coreg is a different type of drug, it is a beta blocker and it has been shown to be very effective in people with cardiomyopathy and CHF. You can find out a lot about it at Jon's Place. The URL is http://www.geocities.com/heartland/hills/2571/heartforum.htm Just wait until the site index loads and you will find TONS of valuable information. Guest guest
Explain Cordorone to an ignorant person. My sweetie was given Coreg (carvediol) for awhile--a sample. Since the cardiologist has had a personal emergency, we have not been able to discuss this. I feel like we are on a roller-coaster. Does anyone have any info on this drug? Thank you for your ideas. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
