Guest guest
I agree that the ICD might be considered brutal therapy, but consider the alternative without it and it doesn't seem quite as bad. The anti-arrythmic drugs are not a guarantee that we will not be going into vt -- so I feel very comfortable with the ICD as a backup measure. I know from my own experience that it really does the job. Peace of mind means a lot to me. Arne in PA ICD From Jimmy Belgium According to some high rankes or les high ranked Cardiologists there is a trend or a fashion if I may say so , in favor of ICD this last years. This could be detrimental allways according to them to the research in proper anti arrythmian new drugs. ICD is very efficient of course but it is a brutal therapy , and I am pretty sur any one of us would prefer to be just on drugs provided they work efficiently. There is going to be a new amiodarone(cordarone) on the market in a couple of years may be less with out iodine in it, and less side effect, but will it be as efficient? Guest guest
Hi Tom I took Quinaglute, Norpace, Isordil. Early in1998 was taken off Norpace and Atenolol was added for angina. ICD was put in 10-8-98. The worst part was the sandbag on the groin area for many hours. Ken > Hi Ken, > > You said you were on medicine for VT since 1982. Guest guest
Dear Tom I have been on cordarone from 1982 upto 1998. It really works very well. Micro deposits on cornea affect any one on cordarone. It also affected the colour of my skin my nose was getting blue, very humiliating for some one drinking only water. Main side effect, if quantities of cordarone, are too high, could be thyroïde function. This has to be watched carefully because it can give arythmia. However this also can be overcome. I think they can put me back on cordarone if ICD not enough. Guest guest
Jimmy. I have only been on Sotalol since August 98. No VT episodes since then. My ICD was implanted in March 97. First Zap was in Dec 97, followed by another in April 98. After the EP interrogated the ICD and found out it was malfunctioning (it was taking 4 & 5 jolts to break the arrythmea) he replaced it with a new one, (same model but with an additional lead to vector the distance between the three leads. All went well until, while on vacation in August 98, I got Zapped 5 different times in one day. Tried to make it back home but had to stop and check in to the ER at a hospital in Dover, MD. That is where they took me off Coreg and started me on Sotalol. No VT since then and things have been going really well. This group is the greatest. I finally feel like I am talking to people who through their own experiences understand what I am saying.
