the radio. now that the fund drive is over, yes I do want to do

that and I want you to be my call in guest. I still have much

I want to tell Janet that I do admire her saying she would be a live donor.

I noticed on another list years ago that there were a few who had cleared

the virus and some who were in desperate need of a new liver and asked if it

was possible for one who has achieved SVR to be a live donor? Personally, I

think it's possible once certain conditions are met. ie: complete

regeneration. I don't know if it's ever been done. I know it would be an

intensly personal decision. but at the same time, I think that it should be

mentioned to those who clear that it may be possible in the future to donate

half your liver with minimal risk. I think if that were possible a large

portion of that population would be willing to donate because they've been

there. and that group of folks is getting larger every day. Just my

opinion....ric

Yes, its good to hear about the apparent successes with achieving SVR for

transplant folks too. I had read the studies that mentioned some

transplanted livers were damaged much faster than the original liver did.

Probably anti-rejection had something to do with that. Knocking the virus

back is a good thing.

and Sally, like you I am puzzled about treating after transplant. I do know

1 person who did that and cleared the virus. But it seems like a total

contradiction. Your lowering your antibodies to rejection and yet boosting

you immune system? All I know is that they are doing it more with more

success.

The thought around starting tratment before emminent transplant is in hopes

of lowering the viral load so the bodies own immune system has a better

chance of clearing the virus on it's own after transplant so the treatment

meds after transplant must help with that too. They started to notice that

some lucky folks did clear the virus on their own after transplant so there

trying to increase those odds.

I KNOW that IF it were possible, I would certainly consider being a live liver

donor,, Im clear now almost 3 years and the fibrosure said I had regressed from

stage 3-4 with early cirrhosis to stage 0-1 with NO activity and the heptimax

tested the vl and was still undetectible down to 2-5 iu/ml... so Im hoping that

means its really gone... I hope so!!!!

I believe it's because they've also been using older livers which in

the past didn't happen.

You know what .....I totally believe that God has a plan. You

know, when my first husband came home and said he wanted a divorce, I

thought I'd die...we had a 3 month old and I was so in love with

him. I remember going to church and asking the priest....Why me?

I'm not a bad person. Why would God let this happen?.....and the

priest said to me....Maybe that's not the one God meant for you. Ask

Him to send you the one meant for you.....and you know what? He was

right!

My second husband is a wonderful man. God gave me so much that

sometimes I wonder how I can deserve this much.

If God had meant that liver to be for you, He would have woken you up

and there would have been no question in your mind....or He would

have had someone else make that call to you. I know it's hard...but

you have to trust and just close your eyes and say, " God, I'm ready

for that liver, please send me the one you meant for me " .

I know it will happen. I can feel it.....Oh I know you're probably

thinking it's a pretty story but it holds no basis.....but you

see...it isn't over.

My husband is Episcopalian and I am Catholic...When we were dating,

he insisted on going to church with me because he knew it was

important to me.....and the first time he went with me....at the end

of the service...you know how the priest stands by the door shaking

everybody's hand? Now...this is a big church...with several

different priests....and there he was at the door...the priest that

had told me to ask for the one meant for me......and he shook my

husband's hand and said, " Bob! when are we going to Santa Anita

(horse races)again? "

You see....they are very good friends....and if that is not a sign,I

don't know what is....

I know that when I filed for my 3rd divorce, I too told God that IF there was

ever going to be someone for me that HE would have to send him cuz I really

sucked at picking them... and then came ,, your story just reminds me how

when we let go and let God, HE does it!

Hi Rob: Welcome to our group. Just by reading various stories of our conditions you will get a good idea about Conn's. We are all very fortunate that we also have a very good doctor Grim on the group who will help you with your questions and give you many good suggestions. You are very lucky to have been diagnosed so early and may even be totally cured by just a change of life style. Conn's or hyperaldosteronism is a condition caused by too much activity in the adrenal glands due to either a tumor on the adrenal gland or just the gland producing too much Aldosterone causing the blood pressure to be high and potassium to be low. This condition can be controlled either by taking medication (such as Aldactone) or if the there actually is a tumor that may be causing the problem(if it is the problem and is not benign) then surgery will cure the problem. This tumor is very rarely cancerous and hopefully no worries there. Meanwhile

it is best to follow a "dash" diet a diet very low in sodium, fat and high in potassium, calcium, magnesium.(you can google to find more info on the diet), exercise regularly, and dont smoke or use alcohol to keep your bp controlled. Dr. Grim has a very useful file on the group you can read and get more idea about the condtion and its stages. You need to post some detailed info about yourself so Dr. Grim can give you his expertese advise such as you weight, medications you are taking and what kind of test have so far been done. You can post your results such as total serum Aldosterone, and Renin, and Potassium and your blood pressure measurements and Dr. Grim will advise you on how to go about best.
