Guest guest Posted May 18, 2005 Report Share Posted May 18, 2005 One of my pet peeves -- doctors are the only ones who can prescribe certain medications -- as though we're a bunch of illiterate cows who have no clue to our medical problems, and who can't take responsibility for researching the various drugs! So who are they protecting? The uninformed person who really doesn't give a darn? They will continue to follow blindly whatever their doctor suggests! -- or those of us who take responsibility for our own well-being and gather all the research data we can, then make informed decisions! I have the sense to not buy super-dangerous drugs -- drugs that I would only take if it were absolutely necessary and only under a doctor's supervision -- but I certainly know my body better than any doctor -- and I am so tired of paying a doctor to write a prescription for whatever it is that I ask for! For example, my husband needed a muscle relaxant a while back -- called his doctor and a prescription was sent in to the pharmacy (for 30 pills, I think) -- BUT he can't get another prescription until he makes and appt and sees the doctor! If there were any danger in the medication, before he got any of it it should have been discussed -- this is just a bid for an office call/fee! I know when I need an antibiotic, and I know when I need to see a doctor -- but I maintain there are many things in life that are dangerous -- no prescription needs to be written for nails, or guns, or cars, or knives.... I am a self medicater as well, but never do anything IF certain things are needed to do it correctly... Right now, if I can get it online, it would be a great help...I hope anyway..
