Not been sleeping right well recently - dunno why - takes me ages to get to sleep and then I will sleep half the day away - can't do that now - have to get up at 7am - I've got a headache :-( > > I'm not at all anxious to go back to work. > > We should get whole seasons off. > > Tom >

I almost fell asleep (or I already slept) then the end of the tape came and the thing clicks so hard I would have awakened were it not I already awoke by the 'boom boom' song at the end of the tape which starts out of nothing and nearly made me jump out of bed =P so I don't think this is a good alternative either...!! next night I will just try my yellow earplugs. When I do get them they are usually about something bad. Then again, I have had a few that had I followed them I'd be rich now.

I tried to order licorice from Holland last year and they were off for two weeks. Retailers in US don't take that much time off at a time. They don't because they usually have enough employees that they can give them vacations in shifts. The European model does have its flaws though because the vacations are somewhat damaging to the economy if everyone is off at the same time. What would work is if companies had 3 to 4 weeks of vacation time, not including Holidays, but the workers would have to schedule when they took those vacations such that enough staff was always on hand, barring illness and things. Scheduling would be done by seniority: long time employees would get first choice and newest hires the last. The people could divided up their vacation time however they wanted, as long as staffing demands were met.

I just think it will be a year of natural disasters, terrorist attacks, and more personal problems for people than usual.Tom That makes sense. I do think we have been lucky regarding terror attacks and there probably will be another one since that is bound to happen. It is more likely to happen now I think since there are traitors in the services that are telling how we are gathering intel on the bad guys. If they are saying this openly, who knows what has been leaked directly to the bad guys. We are on an upswing in the hurricane cycle, so we could be in for another wild ride this coming year. Also, the midwest is seeing a cycle akin to that of the dust bowl of the 1930's. If that happens, hopefully it will reign in the wild overdevelopment in other parts of the country that is swallowing up farmland. We will need that land to grow food on and I really think it should be preserved. Unfortunately, big city politicians are raising taxes so much that it is driving citizens out into the suburbs and feeding the sprawl. People will be having more trouble because of the high debt that they have. Other problems, well if there is a terror attack or another more long-term problem with the oil supply, I could see that giving people problems. Aside from that, it could just be a feeling based on the rough time you are having at work right now. But as they say; Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Guest guest
And my esteemed colleague just started throwing up and went home. " I was fine when I woke up this morning. I don't get it, " said he before leaving. " Can you do my work for me while I am gone. " Sure Tim, I can do it. Of course the consultants have a marketing call, and half the new marketing materials that were supposed to arrive in November that we were to start using the first of the year never arrived. The end result is that we have to do a hodgepodge and a bunch of last minute assembly to send them out. Very unprofessionsal. Guest guest
I hate work at this time of year. It's usually frantic people, chaos, people out, no one to get hold of, me doing several peoples' work, etc. My least favorite time of the year is the last week. Maybe it will get better when things settle down and get back to 'normal'. > > So now I just got yelled at because Fed Ex didn;t delivery two > priority overnight letters overnight.... > > We'll see what else I get blamed for. > > Tom > Administrator >

Guest guest
Right. Most people don't start working again until next Monday over here. That's when the schools start again. When I was working it always felt wrong to work this time of the year. Going back to work after the holidays was painful. :-( Now I am fortunate enough to not have to go out at all. Today I did some sewing, moved a light fixture and painted the coffee table to match my new sofa, while listening to Deep Purple and Nirvana. Then I got tired from all that activity and had to take a long nap. :-) Inger Re: Work I wish we had vacations like Europeans. 4-6 weeks off a year and holidays. Guest guest
Yeah, I don't know how the licorice company was able to shut down for two weeks. I guess they have enough business during the year. Some companies in the US close for 1 or 2 weeks around Christmas. I wonder how it works in China for the Chinese New Year? I think that involves a closing of businesses for a long amount of time, if I remember correctly. There's a lot of Hindu festivals and holidays, more than anywhere I've heard of. My husband got the shock of his life the day before yesterday when he picked up a baby's blanket that had fallen out of the stroller and when he put it on the baby, noticed she was made up--eyes painted, face painted. Actually, I got the shock of my life--it scared me to see a baby made up like that, never having seen it before! I don't know what holiday or reason that was for. > > > In a message dated 1/3/2006 3:29:49 P.M.
