Guest guest
 Hey there Colin,  Spoken like a true Oz......however would it be a bit of a surprise if I gave you my Australian RN registration number along with the others that allow me to work internationally...so there...ha!...  OK except Canada where Wilf is presently hunting...!  As a matter of fact dear boy the comments do come from experiences in other locations and then comparing those with the experience in Oz waters plus the universal opinion of our regular crew. The comments relate to the Maritime Union of Australia members who, in quite broad terms, would be unemployable ashore...!  Colin old chap an MUA crew will comment negatively on anything that may require them to actually do something, which is why they are restricted to Australian waters...we have just had a 5 month break out of Oz waters and had fantastic Filipino crew renovating our vessel back to what it was before entering Oz and done in a way that will survive the next Oz visit...!  The fact of the matter is that everyone and everything that is not Australian fails any Australian regulations and standards simply as a matter of course, so chaps like you can comment as you do.....and for some pathetic reason always find a way to bring up that " racist " thing if they hear something they do not care for...and that from the most racist people on earth, the Australians....!  The MUA crews we had totally refused to follow all our company HSE programs  - wear correct PPE - or follow SOPs...( see we can write these letters as well) - they were at the work site around 3 - 4 hours ( note the " at " ) a day instead of 6 - 6 and eventually everyone just gave up on the buggers and waited until we got out of there, they spent their days in their cabins with our TVs or their laptops...or having meetings on the things they will not do.  Yes you are correct in that other locations have local hire problems and we have experienced them but none so bad as the Oz experience...which was enough to make our regular Oz members ashamed and as you may have noticed then non Oz folk like me generally do very well in Oz because the local competition is not up to foreign standards of work.  However just a point that I am talking about Maritime Deck crew here, the engine room crew, which was 30% Kiwi was great, ( and the Oz crew also had it in for the Kiwis), while the catering/housekeeping staff were far below the standard of Filipino or Polish staff, but adequate.  Ships from countries such as North Korea and Ukraine I will definitely grant you often require scrapping but we are a European fleet with vessels of the highest quality and standards but which are still not good enough for the MUA as they do require some work during the day.  You may not have noticed it but my remarks actually come from having been in Australia and as you point out I should take note that there is no Free Speech there. However I will be in Oz for Christmas working with these very folk of which we speak...!  Oh yes, just as a pointer Colin, on this web site we do not pretend to be perfect or too smart as your remark on spelling mistakes brings me to asking you if you may have heard the proverb about, " people in glass houses... " ..(sic)....?  So from your letter please take note of the following;  " p.s. (PS) you may want (?) to spell check your email's (emails) in future (as) even a dumb Australian can spell ( . )....!  As you say a dumb Australian knows how to use " spell check " ...but proves said dumbness with shabby grammar and punctuation, unless of course that is the local standard...?  Regards  P.
