Guest guest
 I believe many of the rules re offshore clinic furniture are influenced by the US Coast Guard regulations...  I remember an American drill rig company which insisted their clinics had to have a black dental type chair, simply because of these rules...it was a waste of time explaining to these 'drillers' that the examination couch was what modern medics used to examine and treat people... " no sirree that thar chair is on them thar specs an it's gonna stay " ...gotcha !  However, I like using inflatable splints, I have a full set in my emergency response bag - (small space &  light)...used them some years back in a jungle type conflict and got comfortable with them.  As far as the bath goes I have a one in the clinic bathroom where once a week a pleasant lady crew member enjoys a long hot bath, (back scrubbing brush on order)...and I also like to take a soak at times with a book and an MP3 playing 70s sounds, (that's 1970 Wilf), it is also a good way to moisturise the skin after a hike around the helideck and a dip in the pool, just add baby oil into the water, (the bath water Wilf)...then play tag...I wish!...(no not with Wilf ) !  Cheers  P.    So Chaps, Given that I have now done a bit more research in to the subject to check up on my facts. I seems that the bath would only ever come in to play in the mildly - Moderate Hopothermic patient ie temp above 30 degrees C and also give that the only true way to get an accurate core cardiac temp is not available or practical via an intra oesphogeal thermal indicator or intra cardial indicator. Are we ever going to risk the potentially fatal cosiquences of placing a hypothermic patient in to the bath? Therefore having one on board the vessel is pretty pointless for one and is it our fault that the various governing bodies do not update their regulatory documents offen enough to keep up with even the most basic of changes (Point to note) the inclusion of blow up splints or even worse!!!
