Guest guest
" Is it known what diet and health dogs that have died from ingesting this fluke? I am asking this because I've heard from some people that once they put their dogs eat the BARF way, all sorts of health problems go away, including parasites and flees. " The difference is that the salmon fluke refered to is not a " parasite " problem like mites, fleas, or ticks. For instance where the immune system or overall health of the dog may contribute to them not being infested with ticks, thus preventing the tickborne disease caused by a rickettsia organism, the immune system does not prevent the dog from eating raw pacific salmon. The fluke/parasite Nanophytes salmincola is not the problem, the problem is the rickettsia organism that infests the fluke/parasite; Neorickettsia helminthoeca. I've lost 2 dogs to salmon poisoning and I see about 25 cases just in the month of November with dogs who have eaten raw salmon. Though my dogs are on a raw natural diet under no circumstances will I ever feed them raw salmon, trout or steelhead. :-) RVT, VDT Mailto: MinatoNeshoba@... Right, but the dog's internal environment could prevent the parasite from establishing itself inside the dog and causing serious problems. I remember reading documents by some doctor who worked with third world people. He said that those who started to eat refined foods developed infections frequently, but those who kept eating natural fiber rich foods they had always eaten -- were immune to the infections. Changing diets of the sick ones resulted in recovery. The doc's point was the eating wrong foods create internal environment that promotes disease. I think it's reasonable to refer to the infections he spoke of as parasites. > I've lost 2 dogs to salmon poisoning and I see > about 25 cases just in the month of November with dogs who have eaten raw > salmon. Is this diet the same as BARF? If not, what does it consist of? Roman
Guest guest
" Were the dogs that you lost on that raw natural diet? " No, they were not, this was in the late 60's and I was just a kid. But it's not something I'm willing to subject my dogs to that are on it. Nor do I know of any raw feeding dog owners that are. " Is this diet the same as BARF? " Yes, it is the same. I just won't use the word BARF (Bones And Raw Food) which is a disgusting term for something that is a natural species specific diet. But that's just me. RVT, VDT Mailto: MinatoNeshoba@...
