My mother has done a great job of quietly training her friends and

our family to let her eat what she needs to eat.

Her food intolerances can have fairly severe reprecussions (she's 77

and just doesn't recover from diet mistakes quickly anymore). She

will eat before meeting friends and then bring a thermos of soup to

look like she's eating if it's at their house. Or at a resturant have

a cup of hot water and her own tea bag. (I've seen her bring her

thermos to a resturant a few times....at this point in her life she

just doesn't care what anyone has to say)

She lets them know ahead of time that she needs to do this for her

health. And she always eats before she goes to cut down on temptation

hunger. She's very gracious about it but firmly says no, it looks

wonderful but I'm afraid it might make me sick.

(She and I both use a non-soy protein food supplement like Ultimate

Food for occasions like this....it makes it way easier to resist food

if you're already stuffed)

My mom is like Heidi ....if it's a potluck she brings her most

wonderful creations and people think she's a gourmet cook! They can't

wait to get at her food.

However she does get frustrated at times. It's sometimes real hard

to sit there and not eat what everyone else is...especially the

desserts....so she's not always 100% able to resist and will give

into Ben and Jerry's even if she's sick the next day.
