Thank you for including explanation of abbreviation i.e. IRHC .... do you have

any links ?

I do have a bit of a issue, those using abbreviations other than medical PLEASE

take the time to write it out, this site is growing in popularity, OZ vs. UK vs.

US vs. SA vs. +++++ .... abbreviations of different course(s) honestly the post

becomes lost in space to many.

thanks

Hi Ladies & Gents,

For those of you who are interested the IRHC " Institute of Remote

Healthcare " has just done an appraisal of current course providers and

the provider which came out top was " Nottingham City Hospital " for

course content, cost and certification. Please be aware that I have

nothing to do with this training establishment.

The IRHC is looking to become the registry for offshore and remote

medics and I would recommend joining. By the way it's free to register.

IRHC is also looking to giving Legal assistance and insurance to it's

members in the same way that nurses are covered by the Royal Collage of

Nursing.

Rgds,

I do not know much about any of this but was curious as well - here is what

I found on the net: http://www.irhc.co.uk/ - I think it is the one he was

talking about - sounds pretty interesting uh.

Hi Folks,

I was in contact with the IRHC almost a year ago about membership etc.

The person I was in contact with painted a very attractive picture of the

Institute but it seems it hasn't moved on at all since. I sent some enquiring

e-mails but still no further forward or indication when things will be at a more

advanced stage.

Does anybody have any up to date information?

On the subject of the offshore medic course evaluation, is that not the remit of

the HSE?

Will the IRHC registry be compulsary? and does it have the backing of HSE, Opito

or other relevant bodies?

cheers

Grant

Hi Grant,

I've answered as simply and as best I can some of your questions, if

you require more information contact the IRHC office on 0870 835 0720

or by email on info@....

Backing of HSE? They will be in the loop as the setting up progresses.

Backing of OPITO? They only collate course certifcations and are not

a qualification / accreditation body.

Other relevant bodies? They will be in the loop as the setting up

progresses.

Will the IRHC registry be compulsary? NO

cheers Donnie, I'll contact them again and see where they are at.

I suppose compulsory registration in remote practice would be difficult to

undertake but unregulated practice in healthcare is dangerous as competence

can't be assessed by an objective body. My recent experience of the

more reputable firms dealing with offshore medics is that medic assessment is

being taken more seriously. But unfortunately you hear of too many dubious

" HSE approved "  courses who virtually pass anyone who turns up.

cheers again.

Guys,

The IRHC sounds like another BAEMT/Paramedic UK type organisation??

Any comments?
