Guest guest
I've just read the book " Curves " by the founder of the Curves exercise gym/ diet centers. He has some good things to say; advocates a low-carb diet - but the most interesting thing to me were the 3 stages of the diet, especially the 3rd " phase " . 1st phase is like the Atkins induction diet - very low carb (under 20 carbs/day) for 1 or 2 weeks. 2nd phase is adding more carbs (40-60 carbs/day) until you lose the desired amount. On the 3rd phase, you are supposed to eat 2500-3000 calories every day. Then when you gain between 3 and 5 lbs (which will apparently happen very quickly at first) you go back to phase 1 for no more than 3 days to lose the excess fat/water. Then you continue eating 2500- 3000 calories until you gain 3-5 lbs; go back to phase 1 for up to 3 days, and so on. After each cycle through the phase 3/phase 1 diet, it should take longer to gain those 3-5 lbs, until you might only have to do the phase 1 diet for 2 days every month or so. The rest of the time you eat normally. The book says you are getting your metabolism to work at a normal level again. You are only supposed to go back to the phase 1 diet for up to 72 hours so your " starvation hormones " don't kick in. I hope I've explained it right. Any thoughts on this? It's completely new to me.
