Guest guest
" As of yesterday, Hain Celestial is still its own publicly traded company, so it doesn't look like Heinz owns it. " Not everything is as it appears. Hain Celestial is a subsidary of Heinz. http://www.responsibleshopper.org/basic.asp?cusip=423074 Which if I remember correctly means that they operate under their own name and make company acquisitions under their own name, and a subsidary recieves financial support for advertising and such from a " merge " like this one. Heinz may not " Own " it 100%, lock stock and barrel, but Hain is not their own keeper either. 20% might seem like a very small amount to some people but in the world of business it's a big deal. ;-) _________ A quote: " We will marry Heinz's great strength and sale in low-cost international procurement, manufacturing and logistics with Hain's talent and success in the marketing, sales and distribution to specialty food outlets, " Heinz CEO R. said. " __________ Another quote from 1999 before Heinz acquired Hain Celestial but did ALREADY HAVE 18% of the company. http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/02_24/b3787119.htm " Will H.J. Heinz gulp down natural-and-organic-food giant Hain Celestial Group (HAIN ), of which it already owns 18%? " __________ And another: http://www.preparedfoods.com/archives/1999/9911/9911edit.htm " In September, Heinz bought a 19.5% stake in Hain Food Group for nearly $100 million. Hain, the leading producer of natural foods in the country with annual sales of $206 million in '99, acquired the Earth's Best baby food brand in the deal. " and " The Heinz-Hain partnership is really a win-win situation for both parties. Heinz now can use Hain's marketing and distribution network to introduce some of its global nutritional products into the U.S., while Hain can use Heinz' relationship with retailers to move its products into more supermarkets, mass merchandisers and drug stores. " ___________ Here's a " Joint " press release of the happy couple: http://thesoydailyclub.com/thesoyfiles/HeinzAndHainCelestialAnnounc.asp ___________ Oh and a little something from an article about the HAIN acquisition of Celestial Seasonings in Mar. 2000 http://www.celestialseasonings.com/whoweare/press/hain_celestial.jhtml " The consolidation further establishes Hain's leading position in natural foods, in which it currently maintains major shares in 12 of the top 15 categories. By leveraging Celestial Seasonings' leading market position, The Hain Celestial Group, Inc. will become the leader in the third most important category and, at the same time, will capitalize on Celestial's leading market presence in the food, drug and retail mass market channel. In addition, this combination will benefit from the alliance between Hain and H. J. Heinz by expanding distribution of Celestial Seasonings' specialty teas through Heinz's international and foodservice channels. Combined total pro forma sales for The Hain Celestial Group are expected to be approximately $430 million for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2000.
