Guest guest
>---> The cortisol in interesting. I think you went into this on an >earlier discussion. My weight gain is all around the middle - >cortisol gaining areas I just got a book on it, " The Cortisol Connection " -- jury is still out whether I like the book or not, but it makes some good points. Cortisol definitely makes you gain fat. But the book basically goes into the fact that stress makes you secrete Cortisol, and they are talking about traffic/boss-yelling kind of stress. Other things that cause over-cortisol secretion: -- Low blood sugar -- Allergy/type reactions -- Lack of sleep. > > When I react to a food, I get cold hands and feet -- and the next >day I am > > RAVENOUS. > >-----> thanks for that bit of information. I do get cold hands and >feet but aways attributed it to thyroid problems. I will pay more >attention to what I ate previously. I thought for years I had low thyroid. I was always freezing cold, and no energy, and falling asleep all the time. But my thyroid and iron were fine. Now I think the cold hands and feet are a stress reaction -- like going into shock. BTW coconut oil will make you feel warmer, regardless! It is kind of magical that way. >-----> tracking is a good idea. Would you mind when you have some >time sending me a rough idea of what you eat daily especually what >seems to make you feel fine. If you don't mind I'd like to compile >people's diets and post it to the files section. I won't need to >attach your name. I think diet examples would be very helpful to new >comers and also older timers struggling along....like me! I use Cliff Sheats and Body for Life for inspiration on meals. Both are low-fat folks, but their meal ideas are easy and work. Basically a meal for me is: -- 4oz meat (about the size of my palm) -- about 1/2 cup starchy something (peas, beans, corn, potato, pasta) or less. OR 1 fruit -- 1 cup (at least) of non-starchy vegies. (big salads, oven roasted green beans, carrots (well, I'm not sure what category carrots should go in), eggplant (often in baba ganoush). -- Often a sprinkling of seeds or nuts. I have more starch in the morning, actually, like one hashbrown potato. And less starch in the evening (usually none with dinner). Kimchi or some other lactic acid thing WITH EVERY MEAL. That is very important, it regulates your blood sugar and helps digestion. I use oil as needed, but don't work at getting more. Usually about 2T to fry my breakfast, 1T or less with other meals (olive oil on a potato, say). The meat usually has some fat in it though. We also like oven-fried chicken a lot, and tacos. BIG salads and chunky soups work good. I don't eat any dairy, at this point, except some kefir and sometimes butter. And no gluten. And rarely eat packaged anything (they very often set off a reaction). I eat a lot of garlic and ginger, both of which make me feel really good, warm, and satisfied. Fortunately everyone here loves garlic. If I need it, I eat every 3 hours (about the same amount). Eating more often really helps in the weight department. Most of the time nowadays though, I'm not hungry after only 3 hours, so I wait longer. If I get the " hungries " I will often snack on dried salted anchovies, which for some reason works (lots of protein and vitamins, I'd guess) or a peanut butter apple, or raw carrots (I love crunchy stuff). The anchovies work even better if they are dipped in oil -- there are some yummy things you can do with them in Korean cuisine, but I'm not generally that motivated for snacks. And homemade jerky. I also lift weights, which REALLY helps. For one thing, it helps in the Cortisol dept -- it balances stress hormones, and also helps insulin resistance big time. It only takes 15 minutes every 3 days or so and about $45 for a weight set, and maybe $10 for an inspirational " how to lift weights " book. I think calories DO matter. The thing is, if your " appestat " is working, you shouldn't have to worry about calories because your body will eat just the right amount and/or adjust your metabolism and/or decide not to store the extra calories. My appestat just doesn't work right! Probably from years of not eating right. But starving yourself just doesn't work for weight loss. So I'm trying to figure out what the ideal meals are -- for me --- -- Heidi
Guest guest
> Hi Folks.. Ive been following this NT weight gain with interest. I lost 20 lbs on a Body ecology / NT diet but was starving the whole time, so i dropped the Body Ecology diet abit and eat more protein 1 to 11/2 lbs & 10 eggs a day with about a 25% fat ratio with no sugar starch wheat ect. I added kefir back into the diet and within 8 weeks gained 15lbs back. I quit the kefir, and my weight stabilized. Then it hit me the more fat I ate the better I felt but the volume of protein (Steak) was dragging me down, so I called my butcher and ordered beef trim. 90% fat 10% meat. I lost 8 lbs in 4 days. I now have lots of energy as long as I rotate with eggs and trim and salad and trim and my weight is stable. if I eat to much fat and not enough balance of red potatoes, veggies ect, I do get tired, but I cannot tell you how satisfied this trim has made me. We just did french fries tonight in clear tallow trim (no meat) and talk about a balanced meal. Red potatoes cut thin & fried in tallow for about a 1/2 hour, mmmm.mmmm, good!! I had experienced the weight gain on kefir while on the previous diet so something is going on I haven't figured out quite yet. One thing the BED taught me is the balance that must adhere to the meals you eat, but that mostly is related to how i feel after word as opposed to any weight gain. I am thinking of getting my cholesterol checked just to see what 1 lb of fat and an average of 8 eggs a day cooked in the left over fat does to my numbers. Oh by the way, Trim is usually free, its the stuff in they pitch in bone barrels they use to make soap out of...... Thin strong and on the cheap....... Guest guest
>90% fat 10% meat. >I lost 8 lbs in 4 days. That is so funny. It reminds me of a book I was reading about and . They seemed to live on buffalo hump. Also Sacajawea ... she was sitting, eating tallow candles when the food ran out, nursing a baby. -- Heidi
