Guest guest
Hi folks, anyone know what dose of Tetanus Toxoid should be administered as cover for tetanus prone wounds.
Guest guest
hi Neale we (in the US) normally give the full dose (0.5 ml) as a booster if it has been over five years since the last dose was given. I hope that this helps. The original dose is also 0.5ml. Have a great week. Guest guest
The Tetanus Toxoid is 0.5 mg IM, it is usually good for 10 years, unless the laceration or puncture wound is extremely dirty, then the booster can be administered again in the 5-10 yr. range from the date of immunization. > > Hi folks, anyone know what dose of Tetanus Toxoid should be > administered as cover for tetanus prone wounds. >

Guest guest
U.K guidelines are for a O.5Ml 'Booster' dose assuming the patient has had a Primary course of immunisation consisting of O.5ml given on x3 occasions. If the patient has had no primary course of immunisation and you consider the wound tetanus prone i.e puncture wound or heavily contaminated or more than ? 5 hours between wound occurence and attendance for wound toilet then you need to give 250iu of Tetanus Immunoglobulin in one site and commence the primary course of immunisation with the first dose of 0.5ml of Tetanus Toxoid in another site ( and obviously then go on to complete the primary immunisation ). regards > > Hi folks, anyone know what dose of Tetanus Toxoid should be > administered as cover for tetanus prone wounds. >
