Guest guest
Hi, Anyone from California? I have 2 sources for Raw Milk to choose from Organic Pastures and Claravale. I have been drinking Organic pastures whole milk but recently decided to try Claravale. I noticed with the Organic pastures milk that after a few days I'd notice this cottage cheesy buildup in the lid and it didn't smell too good. But the milk is too expensive to throw away so I'd shake the bottle and drink it anyway. I noticed the Claravale milk still tasted very fresh and no cheesylike buildup in the lid even on the 3rd day. Would this have anything to do with the type of cows that each farm is using? Is this cheesylike substance on the Milk bottle lid spoilage or could it be yeasts? Any thoughts? Thanks in Advance -Vee

When Organic Pastures first appeared in local stores, I was very excited and bought some. It was great. The next time it tasted HORRIBLE. I gave up. I tried again recently, and have been buying it consistently for a couple of months now, and it's been excellent every time. I shake my bottle very well before opening it, mixing that cream on the top with the milk, and it never fully separates again. There is no " icky stuff " on my lid, as it gets mixed in from the beginning. Clarvale Farms has always tasted very good to me, but I now only buy it if they are out of Organic Pastures. I prefer the pastured cows and organic milk. Clarvale is raw, but not organic or pastured. >> Is this cheesylike substance on the Milk bottle lid spoilage or could it be yeasts? I imagine it's just the cream beginning to sour. I don't believe it will harm you, and it's not spoiled as in " rotten, " IMO, but simply starting to sour. In CA, raw milk is pretty well monitored, and I believe in recent tests, Organic Pastures not only tested out as " clean " as pasteurized milk is required to be, they actually had zero pathogenic organisms in the milk, period. This far exceeds standards required of even pasteurized milk.
