It was explained that the course was run by Basics and the Cambridge

University was simply a cherry on the pie...I do hope you are not going to spoil

Christmas by telling everyone that Santa Claus is not real as well !

Barry,

It's the Pre-Hosspital Emergency Care Course run by BASICS ( British

Association of Immediate Care) not cambridge University ( they use a

C.University post-grad and continuing education centre to run it

from in Cambridgeshire). Look at their web site.

It's probbaly the course you should do if you want a 'cover all'

course as it includes trauma, cardiac, paeds etc. N.B You won't

easily find a ACLS course in the U.K (where have you been?) as we do

the ALS i.e Advanced Life Support! Look at the Resuscitation Council

U.K website which has all the course centres and dates on it.

Speaking of Alphabet courses

I find that, recently, my best CMEs have been that have been above my

Qualifications

Such as the ATLS or International Anesthesia and Cardiology Conferences.

The conference are never a problem

The courses...

You need to have connections or just dumb luck(And a non discriminatory attiude

of the MD in charge)

I recenty took the FCCS (Fundamental Critical Care Support, Society of Critical

Care)

a lot of ICU up dates, ventlators +++

And procedure lab with cadavers

A well spent 3 days (+ a half day of emergency medicine procedure (on cadavers)

Excellent, excellent

Does not make you an intensivist

But gives you a better undertanding and a deeper respect of all the medical

constraints
