Chas,

Many thanx for this and I am quite staggered by your information on their day

rates.

Your choice of word, " stuffed " , is close to the one I thought of - screwed -

and not even a kiss to go with it...!

On the plan of working with a Norwegian company would you have to be resident

in Norway ?

Cheers.

Short Answer to your question is yes, but see below for a longer dit

I was working through an agency for Norse Hydro in March and the company man

stated that they were being charge 11000NOK a day which £1000!. Obviously I was

not seeing that I was getting 1/4 off it. So by the time various companies had

been paid their cut on it was £1000 aday. I told the company man to cut out the

middle man and give £500 aday and I would be very happy as most medics would

be.But he came back and stated that the going rate (paid by the client) in

Norwegian sector for a NORWEGIAN medic was between 9000-11000 NOK a day. Now

assuming a agency makes 10-15% of your back, medics in the UK sector are getting

stuffed!

To work in the Norwegian sector on platforms/rigs I believe normally you are

required to be a Registered Nurse however, if your on a vessel they tend to wave

this. As long as your CV backs up that you have a good deal of Offshore work

under your belt and suitably qualified.

I know a few UK based agencies who pay a 10-15% up lift for working in Norwegian

sector on there normal rate this is to help with the Norwegian Tax issues, which

to say the least can be complex and expensive. My advice is if you want to work

in the Norwegian sector, work through a Norwegian company pay their tax and then

claim the associated benefits, as a Norwegian employee.

Regards

Chas

Hi Pete,

I am know expert in this field but speaking with a couple of Norwegians on the

ship, they said you do not necessarily have to live in Norway to get the

benefits but you need to pay norwegian tax.

Talking of pay most of the big ROV companies have just given there guys

between £50-70 aday pay rise and I know alot of riggers are following suit. So

next time you go for any job, ask why are we still being paid rates from 2yrs

ago, then hopefully the agencies will start charging the clients more and we can

get the benefits.

Best Regards
