Yeah Bonnie, I hit on high protein way back when. I got a book, Stillmans 14

Day Shape Up, or something like that. I still have the book but lent it to a

friend of mydaughters. I hope like crazy I get it back!!!!

I went up and ended up having 5 slices of bacon and a couple spoons of

cottage cheese. I do better with small portions at a time, so I'll have more

later.

Blessings,

Kiki

I find that bacon doesn't seem to have the amount of salt in it, that it used

to. At least the kind I get. I haven't read the label for that, so if I'm

wrong, I'm better off not knowing...LOL I dunno why, but salt isn't one of my

big deals, it's flour and sugar.

I think Stillmans came out not to awfully long before Adkins. At any rate,

they were about the same time. I was a teen then, this was around 71 or 72,

and worked at a grocery store, so I was always moving. I used to get these

protein tablets, that were just that, protein. Now when I go looking for them

they are all so HIGH in carbs with not that much protein. Those were my life

support at the time. Along with bacon, hamburger and a tiny bit of peanut

butter. I still can't live without my peanut butter :)

The thing that makes me so upset with me is, that I know what I have to do,

to get back in shape and fast at that, but I'm not doing it. And I know I'm in

'that place' {been here for a LONG time} where I want it off, I want to do

it, I want and can do it...I just can't do it. But now that I've made this

public, I have no choice, unless I want to hang my head in shame to all y'all.

And I DON'T want to do that! I want praise NOT shame. Like they say

now...nothing tatses as good as thin feels!

Love ya,

Kiki

5 slices of bacon ... I would bloat up with that much salt! Consider yourself

luck!

I remember back in 1973 getting on the Atkins' diet (I think Stillman was out

then too) -- didn't have much money, so I ended up eating peanuts -- would get a

huge can of them and nibble at them all day! And I lost all of my extra weight

(I had just had my second baby a year earlier, and had stopped breast feeding

her when I started the diet).

Ah, to have the metabolism that I had back then....

Kiki,

I can certainly empathize with you. I know what I want (to be slender), I know

how to do it (low-carbing with low-calorie is what works for me), but somehow I

don't seem to.... At least I'm consistent with my breathing exercises!

Earlier this year I tried the " Eat whatever you want as long as it's

healthy.... " approach -- made lots of sense (still does) but it also put about

10 pounds on me -- fast (fortunately, these pounds came off really fast, too!).

Everyone always comments on how little I eat -- but I think that what I have to

learn is exactly what does my body require. Even as a teenager (back in the dark

ages!) I wasn't a big eater -- an apple carried me through many a day. My mother

was not a terribly good cook -- and I was a very picky eater -- so if I didn't

like supper than I simply didn't eat!

The hard part is that my husband can eat a LOT of food and stay quite slender --

but then he didn't have 6 children (LOL!) -- maybe that makes a difference. He

low-carbs for his health (and his blood work looks really healthy now). Of

course, he also shapes up faster than me -- decided that he was getting a little

pouchy about a week ago -- started exercising and already his stomach looks

flat!

Bonnie,

Don't you hate that? About our hubbies I mean? It drives me crazy. I watch

Rick put away twice as much as I do and I still can't figure out where it goes!

He says he is about 30 pounds heavier from when we were first married. I'm

still trying to find the extra 30 pounds........he doesn't look any

different...well, definitely better, but weight wise no different then he did 30

years ago!

Jenni,

My husband worries when his weight bounces up a few pounds -- he wants to be 142

with absolutely no deviation! Occasionally he'll complain about being 146 or 147

-- and expect me to commiserate and feel bad for him!!! aaargh!

Maybe it's the male metabolism? Or maybe it's the rigor of keeping in shape in

the military that has them so focused and capable of maintaining so well? (My

hubbie's retired Air Force). I know that Harry ran several miles EVERY morning

when he was still active AF -- he finally quit the running (a friend of his had

a heart attack, totally unexpected, and died while running....). Now he walks,

and his job requires that he goes to the lab frequently, when he wears a

pedometer to work he easily puts in 4 miles -- me, everything here at work is

within a couple of steps, unless I go outside to walk at lunch, I don't even get

up to a mile! Harry's the " driving force " that ensures I walk several miles

every evening, and many more on weekends -- I think he absolutely craves

activity (and I'd be happy curled up with a good book....).
