Guest guest
I found a recipe that calls for one butter, no oil, stearic acid and liquid glycerin. My question is, can I substitute sodium lactate gram for gram for the glycerin? It has been so long since I've made lotions/creams... I've forgotten all I knew (a stroke does that to you).... so can someone help me with the substitution? or perhaps just a VERY basic cream recipe that I can use what butters/oils I have? Thanks in advance! gini
Guest guest
HI GIni,IME- which is limited to about 9 years and no real training- lol, supposedly u can sub the SL = to the glycerin. It's supposed to be less sticky which is somewhat enticing. lol I always add a starch for less sticky. now you got me thinking I should experiment! lolol do you have any ewax?  IME it's more reliable than just stearic acid.  thou can try stearic at 3-5%.water at least 50% up to 75 i think. Stearic will make it thicker.but I have never worked with soy. also when you're mixing you may need to sort of like add an additional phase of blending.I make a super thick cream with (equal parts butter and oil) to an an equal part of water and at first it's incredibly liquid-y, it not only has to cool down, I have to wait for the " chemical reaction " bonding to take place and come back and mix it hours later -- unlike when I make lotions. but man, i do like it and at first I totally hated it. HTHWillow From: Farnham Soaps <beadnmouse@...> Subject: Cream recipe question Date: Wednesday, January 5, 2011, 5:30 PM  I found a recipe that calls for one butter, no oil, stearic acid and liquid glycerin. Guest guest
Thanks Willow! I found in my quest for a recipe a butter recipe... that didn't use any water, was whipped and no preservatives.... this seems to be more my style as I just (yet) don't trust myself with the whole % of preservative issues... I will look into what you said, try it, test it... but not sell it as of yet.... I'm too skeerd. Thanks again! gini > > From: Farnham Soaps <beadnmouse@...> > Subject: Cream recipe question > > Date: Wednesday, January 5, 2011, 5:30 PM > > > >
