Folk are enticed by what sounds like wonderful jobs, often associated with big companies like Shell. Having been hooked, people will need to forward small, but increasingly large, payments for permits to work, visas etc. Please ask you friend to contact me off line if I can be of any help as I have had some dealings with Shell Nigeria over this matter. Guest guest
Tell your buddy to be careful. Nigerian scam artists target oilfield workers with false job offers, very official looking, lucrative deals. Then they tell you that you have to provide your own visa and work permit, which you have to pay to the " High Commission for Nigeria " (there is some company in the UK with this name....it is NOT the actual Nigerian Embassy). The cost was about $2000 for " visa, work permit, translations, courier services " etc. A friend of mine from India, an HSE guy, recently got stung by this scam. A " recruiter " based in the UK offered him a job and he accepted, turned in his resignation, and it was only after I did some checking, and he called TotalFina that we found out it was a scam. Looked VERY legitimate. Even if the offer is legitimate, Nigeria, IMHO, is one of,if not the worst, place to work in the world.
