Guest guest
Hi Liz! We went to Brown County, to the state park and Nashville, In. The colors are SO wonderful this time of the year! We stayed at the Holiday Holidome with the pool and hot tub and sauna and golf course and game rooms. It was so nice and peaceful, we haven't gotten away by ourselves for 3 years. :-) I walked this AM with my girlfriend and did my life lift. I watched what I ate yesterday and starting today I am going to count calories again and keep a journal, time to get SERIOUS again, my stretch 14 " s fit comfortably--NOT GOOD!!! I was going to give up bread and potatoes BUT I can't, for breakfast I had a boiled egg, 1- 35 calorie hearty grain bread and 1/2 yogurt. What do you usually have for breakfast? And anyone else?? Guest guest
Hi Connie, It's been years since I went to Nashville, Ind. We'll have to that again sometime. I haven't done any exercise yet today, but I will. I normally eat high fiber cereal or oatmeal and a piece of toast for breakfast. Guest guest
For breakfast I usually have 2 eggs, scrambled -- sometimes add leftover salmon; or sausage, mushrooms, onions, cheese; or whatever meat/vegetables I have left-over from the night before. When I'm not worried about my weight, I eat a low carb cereal (Atkins) with berries, walnuts, flaxseed, and Hood's low-carb milk. I typically eat salad or tuna fish (or nothing) for lunch. And supper is usually a piece of meat/fish (grilled) with a large salad and a vegetable (like asparagus or cauliflower). Last night I made a casserole of ground beef/cabbage/Rotel/caraway seeds...; tonight we're having salmon, asparagus, and salad. Seldom eat bread (and when I do, it's low-carb). Fruit is for when I'm not seriously trying to get some weight off (like right now). And nuts, I tend to eat way too many, so I'm currently not eating them. The only cake I've had was at my daughter's wedding last February ... I exercise (LL+) every morning, about 30-40 minutes. Walk at lunch (1+ miles, hills). Walk every evening (1 mile loop with dogs). and on weekends we hike, bike, roller blade, etc., etc. And I still am about 20 pounds overweight! Bonnie Re: Hi Friends!! Guest guest
Bonnie, when you say you are still 20# over weight, are you losing inches? If you're losing the inches, you'd be most likely building muscle, which we all know weights more. Just curious about this. Also, question for ya. I think tomorrow I'm gonna check out the CLA and CoQ10. How do you feel the NOW brands has worked for you? I buy that when it's a good match for what I need, less money ya know I think that's what I'll get in the CoQ10 as well, unless you can tell me something I'm not seeing in all my reading. I've been on the Oregano oil for 5 days now. I wasn't sure if I was reacting bad to it or not. I've been TOTALLY wiped for about that long. Tired before and the OoO seemed to make it worse. The last 2 nights I was feeling 'fluie' as well. Today I finally feel better. Not tired, to bad anyway. {I've got 2 kittens that like to play on me at 3 AM, so that wakes me up}. Been up since 6AM today and don't feel to bad. I'm hoping that maybe, just maybe I'll get that energy boost so many talk about. How are you doing on these sups? Connie, thanks so much for asking. I'm doing OK. Nothing to shout about, but nothing to be crying over. I'm good with that! I am trying to get back on the workout road. As I said earlier, I've just been sooooooo tired, no energy at all. I hope that has changed and I'll be back to normal, whatever that is...LOL Is anyone else taking the sups I mentioned earlier? If so, would you mind sharing your experiences? I swear, I'm gonna have to clean off an entire shelf soon, with all I take. The want to's and the have to's... Guest guest
Thanks Bonnie, can I come have breakfast with you? :-) I am 53 and honestly everything I eat goes to my but!!! Of course I sit on it all day ( secretary). It sounds like you do very good with your eating plan! Sweets are my downfall. :-( I haven't met a cookie I didn't love. I am going to Subway for lunch today, but like I told Liz, it is my evening eating that is the problem :-( Re: Hi Friends!! Hi Connie, I'm so glad you had a great vacation with your hubby. Guest guest
Hi Connie, Well, I sit most of the day, too (tech writer -- work at the computer all day) and I'm 60 -- my weight seems to go to my belly/butt/thigh region -- UGH! I wish that rounded (very rounded!) lower areas were the attractive ideal for women! Truthfully, I'm at the point that I don't know what else to try -- I have very little time to work in any more exercising, I have stripped my eating to the point that I seldom have any sort of treat. Evening snacking -- I read somewhere that every time you feel like snacking, first eat a hard-boiled egg -- and if that egg is more than you can tolerate, you likely aren't hungry, just in the mood for a snack. Since I don't get home from work until 7-7:30, then have to make supper (with the help of my husband), do laundry, etc., I seldom am tempted with snacking -- it's a rare evening that I can sit down and read for an hour (where do people find the time to watch all the television they talk about?). My biggest snack problem was eating almonds (like 3-4 (or more) ounces when I walked in the door after work) -- I've stopped that by simply telling myself " I can do this " each time I head towards the pantry door -- it's worked for about 2 weeks now. Guest guest
Jenni, The reason for not eating fruit with any other food, is the way it digests. TOTALLY different from carbs and proteins. As for what you read about not eating carbs and proteins together, that is food combining, and I am a firm believer in it! The 2 conbined are also the cause of being, scuse me, gassy. Suzanne Somers, Summersize, is all about this. I don't really follow her eating plan, persay, as well as I don't follow Atkins or any one plan. I've been eating high protein/low carb for so many years, I know exactly what I can and can't do. However, I am always learning new things, and some I may give a try. Is the book you ordered possibly The Schawartzbein {I'm sure I misspelled that!} Principle? If so, that is a GREAT book. Full of so much info. Her plan is a higher carb than Adkins. Follow her plan or not, both her books are a well worth reading! I highly recommend them. Love ya, Kiki
Guest guest
Melinda, The books sound interesting. I may have to check them out, to see what they say. I think it all boils down to finding what works for each of us, as an individual. No one program will work for everyone. No matter how many people try tell you different! What works for me, may not work for you {I use the term 'you' in the collective} This is exactly why I'm always interested in what others have to say about their success or failures. Guest guest
Kiki et al, I'll have to look tonight at the brand of CLA that I'm taking -- don't have the bottle here at work. I buy my vitamins (most of them, anyway) from www.iherb.com -- it's the cheapest and fastest place that I've come across. I did not buy the Tonalin brand, but rather bought one that said it was just as good as the Tonalin and had been certified by some group -- but lots cheaper. Don't really know if it's helping or not, but plan to order another bottle and try for a second month. I restarted taking OoO yesterday -- and I've been super-tired (muscle-wise) -- maybe that's what hitting me? I will continue taking it, see if I come back to feeling normal soon (usually I have loads of energy). And no, I don't think I'm adding muscle -- I got married (second) in 1998, at that time I was about 125# (which was a good weight for me). I was doing just fine with my weight, then (around 1999) a doctor put me on HRH (everyone should take it ....) and my weight jumped about 10 pounds. I quickly went off the HRH, but that seemed to mark a constant weight battle -- I just keep adding a pound here and a pound there ... never very much until I try on last season's clothes.... I'm now up to 155# (I would be very happy with 135#). And I'm fighting the need to go up to a size 12 Well, I'll just keep trying -- LL doesn't seem to move any weight off me, but it does so much else for me that I'll continue. And I'll keep tweaking my diet (though I do believe entirely in the low/good carb approach to eating). Oh well... Bonnie Re: Hi Friends!! Guest guest
Bonnie, I just ordered a diet book, oh dear, I can't remember how to spell the name of it. After reading about it I'm really excited to try it. It is much less strict than the Atkins way of eating but they talk about not mixing certain foods. For instance one thing I've learned is not to eat fruit with anything else. Apparently it can cause weight gain...you should eat fruit separately from anything else and then wait at least an hour to 2 hours before eating other things. Also, there was an article I read somewhere about not eating carbs with proteins...apparently this also can cause weight gain. I'll look up my order and let you know what they name of the book is. with love, Jenni Proud Air Force Mom! May God guide and protect our troops! Guest guest
The Naturally Thin book is about how dieting in the first place drives our bodies to want to eat - - a lot of us have interpreted it as emotional eating, when actually, it may be that our bodies are trying to catch up and/or prepare for famine mode - the dieting phases, or going too long without eating when hungry. It's about recognizing true hunger signals. Antonello recommends eating real foods, less processed, less junk, etc. I can't do the book justice by summarizing it. You can get it for pennies at amazon.com. I'm now reading her other book, *Breaking Out of Food Jail.* The WW Core Plan reminds me very much of Antonello's good foods lists, and has you eat until you're satisfied - there are no portions, weighing, or measuring. I think it might give me some needed structure so that I begin to eat a bit healthier. Go to a website (I don't remember the address) called Dottie's Weight Loss Zone. Do a search and you'll find it. It details the WW plan. Melinda ) Re: Hi Friends!! Hi Connie, I'm so glad you had a great vacation with your hubby. Where did you go? You're a good girl.... for getting back into the swing of things this morning.:-) Love ya!!! Guest guest
You're so right, Kiki . . . I think it is very individual. That's why we always see successes and failures with every program. I sure wish it were easier to find what works, though! Melinda ) Re: Hi Friends!! Guest guest
Kiki! Yes! That's the book! I read the history behind how they formed the book and I can't wait to read it! with love, Jenni Proud Air Force Mom! May God guide and protect our troops! Re: Hi Friends!!
