Guest guest
I also recommend Jean's book. Breaking free from dieting is so liberating. Our bodies are very smart and God didn't program our hunger drive wrong. Do you know what I mean? So many people fight their hunger instead of learning how to read their bodies. I highly recommend that book and of course, my absolute favorite books are anything written by Dr. A. McDougall. They have changed my life and my body in huge ways. Guest guest
, I think that our bodies are designed to function quite well without dieting, etc. -- IF you always eat well and healthfully. However, I've indulged in years of eating really high carbs (during my first marriage we were super-poor, frequently I filled up on white bread and the like while letting my kids have whatever meat and vegetables we had); I also really indulged in chocolate and coke for many years; and I simply didn't eat well. There was a time (in my late 20s) when a huge chocolate bar with a quart of Coke was a staple " supper " for me -- and I was thin back then!!! Now my body/weight is paying for it. If you catch the problem BEFORE it becomes a problem, I think that you don't have to worry at all. I think my insulin response has been skewed, though, and that's why I'm very careful with the carbs -- particularly with the junk carbs (i.e., sugar, white flour, white rice, processed foods including the trans-fats, etc., etc.). I hope that my kids are catching on to this earlier than I did.... Also, my father died of (what I think were) diabetic complications (they displayed as heart and circulation trouble). He became diabetic at an age younger than I am, so I'm super careful for this reason too -- diabetes runs very strongly in my family, both sides...). Sometimes I try just eating healthfully and whatever I want -- but I always end up piling up several pounds, immediately get bloated with water weight, and simply don't feel well -- I think I've messed my metabolism up too much for that.... My husband is a naturally thin person, can eat much as he pleases -- but he had high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol levels, high triglycerides, etc., etc. -- we went on the Eades' Protein Power (similar to Atkins) and all his blood work improved, to the point that it's now at the levels he wants.
