Hi,

I'm looking into a situation we have and wondered if anyone out

there could tell me if they know how loud emergency alarms i.e. GPA or

PAPA have to be.

I am assuming that there is a requirement for them to produce a level

at a set distance; is there also a limit they have to be in cabins?

Looking forward to your expertise....

Tim

Hey Tim,

On the Rig I'm on, our alarms are set between 85 - 90 decibals.A question you

may want to also consider is not only distance, but also the amount of time a

worker may have to work in that environment at the set decibal readings.

I think loud enough for everyone to hear very clearly and get their a...s into

emergency response mode....comfort levels do not seem quite in order.

Morning Tim,

It depends on the area if the rig, but I can safely say

that anything above 80 decibells would be a safe bet,

abviously in the accomodation section it wont's be as loud

as it would be in the Moonpool for example.

I don't beleive ther is a set limit I think it states that they must be

heard above normal ambient niose probably 85 decibels. As this is the first

level action of hering protection this year. If they can't be heard then

some form of visual warning must be given either Strobes or flashinng lights

which is differant from any other type of Alarm. It would also deppend if it

was a high or low frequency. Hope this is of help
