Guest guest
Bonnie, I thought I would try to answer a couple of your questions. First of all, when you first start doing any kind of aerobic breathing you have to remember that studies have shown that the average person is only using 20% or less of their lung capacity. So, when you are doing LL you will get to the point where you can hold your breath longer as you lung capacity increases and you strengthen your lunges. Also, as far as the weight loss, don't worry about it. Whe cares what you weigh as long as you are losing inches. I would rather way 300 pounds and fit into my size 6 clothes than be 100 pounds and wear size 20. Know what I mean? Yes, I am over exaggerating but you get the point. Just relax and rejoice in the inches that you are not only losing but that aren't coming back. You will get where you want to be and feel so much better in the process. Take care,
Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for your answers. How do we measure our lung capacity -- is it related to how long we can hold our breath (like when we're swimming?) or something else entirely? My initial reason for starting LL was related to having difficulty breathing into a breathing tube at the hospital (after surgery 4 weeks ago) -- it not only surprised me that I had any problems, but it seemed something that I should work at -- hence my web search and start of Life Lift. My husband and I plan to retire (to Florida, near the Gulf beach) in 2.5 years -- and one of the activities I want to learn is diving (not terribly deep, but perhaps 15-20 feet -- around reefs) and I know that lung capacity is important even when wearing oxygen tanks.... And yes, I agree that inches are more important than pounds -- BUT I also know that there is a point in how many inches I can reduce without a corresponding loss in weight. Since I'm not a body builder, I doubt that I'm adding that much muscle -- and the jelly-like mound of my belly is definitely not muscle! Just four years ago, I was about 20 pounds lighter than I am now -- I really would like to wear the same size clothes as I did back then! But I plan to get there -- and I think Life Lift is going to be an important part of it! (And I was down a full pound this morning! That makes 1.5 pounds since I started LL 2+ weeks ago!!!!) Benefits I'm enjoying: 1. I wake up so very easily now -- 5-6 LL pelvic exercises in bed, and I'm wide-eyed awake. Saturday and Sunday I hopped out of bed at 6AM, wide awake and ready to go -- this has added several hours to my weekends -- this would be worthwhile just on its own, but... 2. My clothes are fitting better, and I'm feeling good about the way I look. Although I've only lost 1/2 pound, I am maintaining that loss. I think that I'm down 1/2 inch on my waistline, perhaps some on my hips (I find it hard to reproduce body measurements, I seem to be a real klutz with them) -- and my belly is getting better (but still a looooong way from where it should be). 3. I am wearing a sleeveless blouse today -- something I avoided because of the underarm flab -- it's getting a lot better -- unless I hold my arms straight out to the side, it's not bad! 4. I think my knees are getting better (reduced my glucosamine). 5. My under-eye bags are getting much smaller, and my face looks " fresher " , skin seems nicer than usual (my husband has even commented on it, and is now also doing the Lion!). 6. On weekends, we take our critters for a 3-4 mile hike (along the San River) -- yesterday we went 5-1/2 miles, I was still quite full of energy -- I don't seem to get tired....and I was going up and down the banks with far more ease than I had been... 7. I have started the reflexology, and particularly massage the area of my feet where I have a numbness/tingling/pain -- MUCH better this morning (morning is when it seems to hit the hardest). Questions: 1. I have to stop between LL exercises and breathe (kind of like a heavy panting) -- am I doing something wrong? 2. How long should I be able to hold the squeeze part (after the PAH) -- I end up gasping at the end, and I don't seem to be holding all that long -- is this something I need to work up to, or am I doing something wrong? 3. The belly rub and belly push -- how hard, how intense, exactly where on the belly, etc., etc.? 4. The knee exercise (sitting in a chair and pushing yourself up) -- should you lift your rear as high as possible, or am I getting the form all wrong???? 5. How do I kick the weight loss benefit in? Or should I just be patient? How long before everyone starts seeing the weight loss? Bonnie

Guest guest
Thanks for sharing with us Bonnie. Your words are an inspiration. I feel certain a lot of people will see themselves here and they will go take some extra LifeLift breaths because of you. Below are answers to your questions. Questions: 1. I have to stop between LL exercises and breathe (kind of like a heavy panting) -- am I doing something wrong? Answer: No, you are not doing anything wrong. Your lungs are just adapting to all the oxygen. They will get strong in time and you will no longer feel this way. 2. How long should I be able to hold the squeeze part (after the PAH) -- I end up gasping at the end, and I don't seem to be holding all that long -- is this something I need to work up to, or am I doing something wrong? Answer:You only need to hold the lift as long as you can comfortably. Each person is different so don't judge yourself by anyone else. You will work up to a longer " lift " in time. 3. The belly rub and belly push -- how hard, how intense, exactly where on the belly, etc., etc.? Answer: The belly rub should not be hard at all. Just a nice gentle rub to help bring the oxygen to the area for better digestion. 4. The knee exercise (sitting in a chair and pushing yourself up) -- should you lift your rear as high as possible, or am I getting the form all wrong???? Answer: The higher you lift your rear the more of a workout you will get. Your form is fine. You will just get a better thigh workout if you lift higher. 5. How do I kick the weight loss benefit in? Or should I just be patient? How long before everyone starts seeing the weight loss? Answer: In the beginning many people lose many more inches than pounds. I know many women who have lost a couple of dress sizes before seeing any weight loss on the scale. In the beginning you are losing fat and building lean muscle which weighs more than the fat you are losing. The fact that you are feeling so much more energetic and having so many benefits tells me your are doing LifeLift right.
