Guest guest
The recipe sounds yummy. My question is, do you have any idea what the carb count is in it? I don't have a proggie to figure it out and I too, count carbs. Thanks so much... Kiki
Guest guest
Thanks so much Bonnie I was thinking it had to be bad somewhere and it would be the calories. Hmmmmm, there has to be a way tho. I just have no idea what it is. I'm not that creative in the kitchen dept. I'll ask some friends that may have an idea or two and let you know if I come up with anything. If you do, let me know too, OK? I'm just getting into learning about coconut oil, barely have any knowledge. It sounds amazing tho and I want to implement it into my regimen for sure. Went to the library and they didn't have the books by Fife so I'll check out the book store. To any and all that have been exchanging the coconut oil info, jkeep it coming!!! I'm really learning and getting ideas to add to LL and diet... Kiki

Guest guest
Hi Kiki, the screen captures (from Fitday) didn't work, so here's a quick breakdown: coconut oil: 2.5T, 293cal. 34g fat, 0g carb, 0g protein coconut flakes: 1.5oz, 281 cal, 27g fat, 10g carb. 3g protein baking chocolate (unsweetened): 1.0 oz, 148 cal, 16g fat, 8g carb, 3g protein pecans: 1.0oz, 196 cal, 20g fat, 4g carb, 3g protein carbs - fiber = ECC 22-14=8 I made 2 " servings " out of this, but still, the calorie count is horrifying!!!! I think I need to find something a little less calorie-dense.... But it did taste good! Re: ****SPAM**** Re: Digest Number 1675 {Bonnie} The recipe sounds yummy. Guest guest
after looking at the numbers, I think that I may just add the oil to my breakfast cereal, then carry dried coconut flakes to nibble on at work -- they contain a lot of fiber (2.5 ounces contain 12 g fiber and 46 g fat). And we'll cook with it (rather than olive oil). I'm going to watch this coconut oil very closely, I wasn't paying attention to just how caloric it was. Hopefully, it'll kick off some weight, but now I'm beginning to suspect where I picked up 2 pounds over the weekend. What is everyone else's experience with coconut oil and weight loss -- I've read the 2 Fife books, and they certainly sounded promising, but ..... Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, I got my first jar of VCO {virgin coconut oil} yesterday. The first thing I did was bath and use it all over my body. THEN, I went and literally gaged {3 Tbs} it down...LOL I did use some when I cooked my eggs and broc too. I don't think I'll ever take it straight again, unless I have a chaser right there! I'll probably put it in my coffee, even tho that means I'll have to have it hot. This time of year, I'm so hooked on ice coffee. And I'll make some broth and add it there too, watered down so the salt isn't so bad...{this is hard for me, I LOVE salt...LOL} The SF cocoa is a good idea, I may have to pick some up. I don't do a lot of cooking, so I can't count on being able to use it that way, but will when I do cook. I love bread, but have to pretty much keep that out of my diet, so there goes putting it on toast. I just joined a discussion board on the VCO, and have been trying to get thru the past posts for ideas. I'll be sure to let you know if I find anything. Or if you prefer you can join it too, if you already haven't. I seem to be spending a lot of time daily, 'googling', or whatever SE you use, VCO, trying to find all the info I can. There is so much out there. I wouldn't have known the difference between VCO, refined, and the capsules, thank goodness I'm curious! How much do you take? I can't remember if you've ever said. I know they say 1-3 {one site said 1-4} Tbs a day. Another question comes to mind. I can't figure out how to use it as a body/face moisturizer except straight. I guess what I'm asking, have you done this and do you have a clue as to what type of lotion to add it to, that doesn't have the other oils in them? I've been looking for a homemade recipe, with no luck. I submitted a post about it to the site I belong to, but guess since they sell their own, they didn't want it posted as it hasn't shown up yet. OK, I'm done for now. Just want to add, I'm enjoying reading all the posts here, about LL, VCO and everything else. I hope everyone will keep sharing their findings and progress. Y'all just seem to be so friendly!!!! Kiki Anyone else out there, have any ideas for this newbie to VCO?????
Guest guest
Hi Kiki, I'm still trying various ways to incorporate the coconut oil into my diet -- lately I've been mixing it with a packet of sugar-free cocoa (and hot water) and drinking it late afternoon -- doubt that that is a " good " addition to my diet! On another board, it was suggested that I try adding it to a hot soup -- sounds like a really good idea. So this weekend, I'm going to boil a chicken with some spices/onions, then carry the soup to work (perhaps a cup each day) -- heat it to boiling, add the coconut oil, then pour it over fresh spinach -- sounds good and sounds healthy.... Have you come up with any good ideas????? Bonnie Re: ****SPAM**** Re: Digest Number 1675 {Bonnie} Thanks so much Bonnie I was thinking it had to be bad somewhere and it would be the calories. Guest guest
Hi Kiki, Ugh, I can't picture gagging the stuff down straight -- I'll bet you had a greasy-mouth feel for an age!!! I've found some coconut oil at an Indian store (at $3.99/500ml) -- it's pure white, has a very mild coconut odor -- so even though I can't read the label, I think it's the correct stuff (according to Bruce Fife's book on coconut oil). I try to get 50g (roughly, 3.5 tablespoons) a day -- half in the morning with breakfast and the other half late afternoon. The late afternoon seems to be filling me up, I don't head right to the nuts when I get home (a very bad habit of mine, I'm always so hungry the minute I walk in the door after work that I scarf down several ounces of almonds...). Moisturizer -- my husband and I simply use it straight -- massage it in until it is no longer greasy -- really works well. Try this: 1. Pinch the skin of your hand (top) for 5 seconds, then count the seconds for the pinch mark to disappear. 2. Massage some coconut oil into the skin of your hand. 3. Repeat the test, and compare the time it takes to get back to an unpinched state. My husband particularly has found this effective, his skin bounces back in no time flat! Just be aware that a LITTLE goes a very long way! I also rub a bit on my face (in the evening before bed) then do the LL face lift. I haven't yet tried it as a moisturizer under my makeup, saving that for Saturday (so if it doesn't work, I will have the time to start over!). I use it on my cuticles, haven't any hangnails (and my cuticles were a mess!). I also rubbed it into my feet last night when I (finally!) did the reflexology tape -- my dry heels are already better.... Boy do I understand the cold coffee rather than hot! With your " y'all " sign-off -- are you a fellow Texan (I'm in Austin)? Bonnie
Guest guest
Hi, Kiki - - I just use VCO straight on my skin - no other moisturizer needed with it. Guest guest
It's great with peanut butter on whole grain toast or celery. I find that the easiest way to take it.
