Guest guest
Hey, Just a quick question. Who is the EEC and what does the abbreviation stand for? Asked around on the rig but no one seems to know. Guest guest
Has this been implemented in the UK? I have heard nothing about it? Magz. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of peter mitchell Sent: 31 August 2005 14:39 Subject: Warning re Oxygen Cylinders Greetings brothers and sisters, This is a heads up with regards Oxygen Cylinders. Apparently the EEC has made a rule (another one) that only Medox Oxygen company is to be used and only UNITOR company can refill and supply these cylinders...(the rule was probably made by someone with shares in the company and never seen a boat or oxygen cylinder.) I do not know how this applies in foreign climes....! Anyway we have been supplied, at sea, with 2 jumbo size and 2 'D' size cylinders all labelled as FULL. On testing 3 of the 4 are Empty......! So anyone out there who has these UNITOR cylinders may be advised to check them and if not full then it may be a good idea to make an incident report out of it. Cheers all. Guest guest
Pete, Do you mean that the only company in Europe to supply O2 for offshore use is Medox? We use Dominion and have heard nothing of this. Regards, Simon Warning re Oxygen Cylinders Greetings brothers and sisters, This is a heads up with regards Oxygen Cylinders. Guest guest
I have only last week ordered two large Medical Oxygen Cylinders through D M Wood who I believe go through BOC. I have searched the Internet and have drawn a blank, Regards Neil Poole Elgin/lin Medic " Growcott, Simon W. Guest guest
, If it is an European Economic Community directives rarely take a form that would lead to this kind of rule. The last one of this kind on medical devices was 93/42/EEC. However, the equipment standardization specs may have changed. If they have, this would be worth knowing. If your cylinders can be used in the territories within the jurisdiction of the various bodies that constitute the European Union, then the cylinders will be marked with a notice saying which of the CEN standards they comply with. The CEN codes all start " EN " . Any chance of you having a look for these and posting the numbers on the list? I am aware that there are some new IMO rules about cylinders that came into force this year, but I think they relate to numbers carried on certain classes of cargo ships, but I'll check this rather than rely on rusty brain cells ... Guest guest
Simon, I spoke with UNITOR at lunch time today and the chap doing the talking advised me that this was the new rule from Brussels and yes that is what it appears to be. Tomorrow their rep is coming to see me re the empty cylinders they have supplied and I will ask him to update me on the situation...I do not think there was any misunderstanding re language over the phone but I shall be wanting to confirm this for our reference as well. So I shall keep you updated as I receive intel. as it is the empty cylinders that bother me from the EEC approved supplier....! P " Growcott, Simon W. Guest guest
, his sounds very reasonable and I have had a look for EN codes and not found any. I am expecting the rep at any moment so shall ask him to get some confirmation on all this. The regualtion re cargoe vessels relates to those carrying 'dangerous goods' and requires the medical oxygen delivery system to be able to deal with two casualties at once...! A boat carrying 10 Russian female tourists could be regarded as carrying dangerous goods and definitely require plenty of oxygen...! P.
