Guest guest
Suze- My girlfriend lives on frozen dinners, pasta, sugar, soda, sugar, pasta, a little low-fat meat, soy milk, sugar, pasta, sugar, soda, soy milk, soda, soda, pasta, and sugar, and she feeds her paranoid cat Fancy Feast and some kind of kibble, so it sounds like you had it good! In every other way she's great -- and no, I'm not interested in going to Kenya or anywhere else for a date -- but on dietary matters, WOW we're far apart. We have separate shelves in the fridge and the pantry, and I don't think our foods overlap more than 5%. (Wait til she sees me making sausage and pemmican, now that she's moved in. She'll have a heart attack just from SEEING all that fat! <g>) >my ex lived on frozen >dinners! no CLO. no liver. nothing fermented. nothing raw. I didn't mean to attribute the " insane " part to her (she's not insulting!) but " octuple bypass " were her exact words, and she recently tried to get me to join a gym with her to head off my impending heart attacks. >i sometimes wonder how that works out for you guys who >date or are married to someone who just doesn't " get it. " As far as that side of things goes, it sucks. The key for us turns out to be just not talking about it at all, ever. It breaks my heart, watching her health go down the tubes -- and watching her think all these problems are normal and acceptable -- but as a trustworthy authority figure on things medical, I don't compare to the VA and the AMA and the AHA and the USDA and so on and so forth. It's extremely difficult, and if through some miserable, unpleasant twist of fate I were ever to find myself looking for a new girlfriend, I'd probably be just like you -- restricting myself to the pool of zero people who fit all my other many requirements AND were totally on board with the whole healthy diet thing. (Though you never know. Politically and in plenty of other ways besides diet and health my girlfriend and I are practically at opposite poles. In fact, we started out loathing each other, and it was a complete surprise to us and everyone else when, after years of mutual detestation, we fell in love.) -

Guest guest
and Suze, I can totally relate. My story: I too am going with someone who doesn't get it. We are opposite in most ways; politically, nutritionally; etc., but he treats me better than anyone ever has. And yes, it does make for some heated debate, which we both enjoy. But, I can totally relate to the feeling of hitting my head against the wall, esp on the fat issue. My first visit to his refrig. found margarine and no fat salad dressing. He didn't have any idea of that being a problem. Where has he been? Living on another planet. I thought that everyone knew about the transfat issues by this day and age. For example, he read info on the Wap site on meat. It said that the studies were wrong on saturated fat. That Price's research shows otherwise. Well, he said what makes Price's research right and all of the other's wrong. He said he has problems with site's like that. Well, that ended that. Believe it or not, he is open to learning. But the constant education is hard on me and I don't know if he will ever truly come around, as he says studies have already been done that prove fat is harmful. He doesn't want to make eating an issue. To make matters worse, he is much more healthy than myself and has a lot more energy. Good constitution, I guess. But, he loves me dearly. Guest guest
I haven't read his book yet either. My friend has it, and I'm going to borrow it next week and read it. His lecture at the WAPF conference was fantastic, and his was the best lecture. It was the perfect level of technicality, and was very well-organized, backing up statement with studies and even giving the references... and that's just his lecture. So I imagine the book must be great. The lecture I saw (and posted notes from) was not about cholesterol and heart disease, but on cholesterol's anti-infectious properties. A lecture more along the lines of the former would be ideal for " conversion. " I believe he gave the later lecture at the conference to give something fresh to the already converted. He also does lecture tours on his book though. Uffe is very scientifically minded and skeptical. For someone who believes that " they've already done studies to prove fat is bad for you, " I think a visit to Uffe would do a turnaround.
