Guest guest
Hi Jill! If you really want to use aloe, I would just use the Shealoe butter since it's already mixed. Why worry about emulsifying when you don't have to? ;-) hth Pami > > I want to create a shea body butter that is good for healing cracked > skin and for reducing scars. Guest guest
I use the shea/aloe blend that WSP carries. It's a 50/50 blend of shea butter and aloe butter, refined. It's thick, smooth, pure white and makes a really awesome body butter or balm. I got a pound of it last summer when my feet were dry, rough, cracked and sore. Within two weeks of using the stuff my feet were no longer cracked or sore. After a month of using the balm daily the roughness was also gone. I make my balm this way: 50% shea/aloe blend, 30% oil (I used sunflower/grapeseed oils) and 20% beeswax. If you want a smoother result you could try 40% butter, 40% oil and 20% wax, or even take the wax down to 10%. HTH Marsha in NW Ohio > > shealoe??? And it surely doesn't sound > natural to me!!!! Guest guest
hey Marsha! cool- thanks for sharing - I knew there was somebody who used this stuff , I have never used the shealoe..mainly becuase I use aloe vera juice straight - and how much product can anyone buy to try! ;o) Plus I use AV juice to add to M & P when I make it - and that's because I started doing that before anyone was even making an AV base. lolol Happy soaping, Willow --- Marsha <redfeather572002@...> wrote: > I use the shea/aloe blend that WSP carries. Guest guest
As for this being 100% natural, I thought I'd weigh in...it is. Aloe and Shea can be blending easily simply by using dried or powdered aloe vera, which is a process of drying the aloe thus removing the water. Then simply adding the pure aloe powder to any butter or oil base you want. And no emulsifiers are necessary to do so. Often a natural preservative is used in any aloe product, like Citric acid or potassium sorbate. But those too are considered natural... It is fun and easy to make your own unique butters...simply start with a base like shea or cocoa and add any extract or carrier oil to get something unique to your business. Like maybe a cocoa lime butter where you have blending cocoa butter and lime extract or a shea/rose butter where you blend in a rose extract. That is exactly what all the big suppliers/manufacturers are doing to create these unique butter for you. Now you can create your own blends by simply getting an extract to blend in. Of course, be careful that you get the right kind of extract as there are many and you don't want to spoil the product. We are actually going to be offering all kinds of crazy and unique butters in the new year for those of you that don't really want to take the chance blending up your own. Hope that helps. Guest guest
Shealoe is one of my very favorite ingredients. I use it as-is to moisturize all over. I even use it as shave cream in a pinch. It is creamy and non-greasy, so it makes a fabulous body butter, and its great in a creamy scrub. Because of its cool, fluffy texture, I use it in place of cream in many recipes to avoid adding water. Dennis is right, it is composed of natural ingredients. If you've never tried Shealoe Butter, you are in a for a nice surprise! It is very pleasant alone, but a dream to formulate with.
