When you go into a chain store, such as WalMart, Hancocks, Joannes etc.

and see the fabric significantly less " for the same fabric " then the

local fabric or quilt shop, be aware that you are often buying seconds,

or often the same pattern of inferior griege goods. One Mfg, so they

tell me, RJR will not sell first quality fabric to chains, so if you see

RJR in the chain store they got the fabric out of the seconds bin. I

believe in supporting my local fabric/quilt shop. Or at least buying

from a reputable quilt shop/fabric shop on line.

Most of Walmart buys is seconds or irregulars. One of my jobs there

was to remove the little arrows on the clothing which pointed out the

irregularities. Sometimes there were half a dozen on 1 pair of jeans.

" Most of Walmart buys is seconds or irregulars "

I STRONGLY disagree with this statement only because I use to work for a company

that does ALL of the testing (in regards to it's clothing, bedding, and even in

the fabric dept) and seconds WERE NOT ACCEPTABLE!! If a supplier submitted

items for testing that appeared to be seconds, that item failed testing. Once an

item failed testing it did not end up in the store until the problem had been

corrected or sometimes the order for that item would be canceled and sent back

to the supplier at their expense. And to ensure that samples were consistent

they would also be pulled from the store at random and from different stores all

over the country to ensure that the merchandise was consistent through out the

testing process. Also, it is the supplier not WalMart that has to pay for

testing before the item can be shipped to the store so if they want there

product in the store they have to follow the rules and make sure they have all

good passing reports.

Sometimes the individual stores are allowed to make local purchases which would

not fall under the testing process and maybe those could have been seconds I'm

not saying they were I am just saying that maybe they could be.

I no longer work for this company, but I know that the testing process is still

in place because I still have several friends that work for the same company and

I also know that this testing process has been in place for at least 16 years.

Believe me I am not WalMart lover, I just didn't want this misrepresentation out

there.

Well perhaps " seconds " was the incorrect word. I apologise. Perhaps

" irregulars " would be the correct term. I wish I had kept the note

from the assistant manager which told me to be sure to remove all of

the little arrow stickers pointing out flaws, from the clothing as we

unpacked it. The only line of clothing free from those stickers was

the " " line. The jeans had the most. I will definately crack

the dictionary next time before posting to be sure I am using the

right term. Thank you.

hmmm irregulars sure sound like seconds to me - when I

worked at KMART in women's ready to wear, many years

ago, we never had seconds or irregulars - go figure...

This very well could have been true for this walmart , who is to say, she is

reporting her personal experience.

My MIL was a store manager and now is a district manager for walmart. If

she received goods with flaws she has a long process of returning said goods to

manufacturer, they werent even allowed to sale price/clearance and send to

floor, or buy flawed goods for themselves.. they all had to be filed as

damaged/received and sent back.

Watch your thoughts, for they become words.

Watch your words, for they become actions.

Watch your actions, for they become habits.

Watch your habits, for they become character.

Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.

You are welcome. I loved the line of clothing from the first

day it arrived. The fabrics felt better ( there were no stupid little

stickers to peel off ) and they just look like they are made better

Thats probably because KMart buys better quality from their

suppliers. Target clothes are extremely nice too.

" Thats probably because KMart buys better quality from their

Actually, you would be amazed to find out that most of the suppliers sell items

to both Wal-Mart, Target and K-mart simply only changing brand labels.

When I was working the the testing lab we would also do comparisons of items

between different retailers From wal-mart to dillards, old navy, gap, kmart etc.

and wal-marts products would sometimes out perform the higher end products.

Anyway, like it was mention before, I am only relaying what i know from my

personal experiences from working with this testing company and I know that

Wal-mart has done a lot to improve the garments that they put out on the floor

and I would assume regardless of where you purchase an item, if it were to have

a defect of any kind it would be returned otherwise how are retailers to know

that they have a defective product or supplier?

PS - I know of one instance where a particular supplier kept sending in defect

items and would manipulate the system in order to get their product on the floor

well the WM buyer stopped using them totally because of this. About a year

later they started selling to Kmart because I recognized the brand label and

everything that used when selling to WM. The products still had the same poor

workmanship that I saw then and I still see it several years later.
