I was aware of an infestation when the biting started. I complained to the landlord and he removed 4 rotted bird nests from the bathroom vent - it was all mush and covered with bugs and fleas!! We could see them climbing up our pantlegs and we had large nasty bites and had to temporarily move to a hotel, it was soooo bad.

The landlord sent someone to spray and it looked like the fleas were gone.... but..... then the real thing hit....had to be bird mites, the bites were not same as the fleas, but I could not escape them... the weeks and months passed.... yes this was a real infestation!! That's how I knew, I wasn't battling an imaginary bug.

How is one to know whether they have an infestation or not?

Elissa- a lot of the crawling and biting sensations are due to nuerons misfiring- from chronic infections and their toxins. The sensations are pretty much identical to a bite or pin prick... For example a common symptom of bartonella is the crawling sensation. I still occasionally get these sensations and I no longer have any sort of infestation.

The permethrin helped with that though. It did kill what was in my skin at the time, but we still can't get rid of them in the environment. So I still feel crawlies but not as bad.
