Guest guest
Hello - I'm looking for information about root canals. Can someone share with me a web site that might be helpful? I just saw this post and I have no understanding of the impact of root canals on one's health. Thank you. Well, I broke a tooth last month and that forced me to find my new dentist quickly. I am going thru MAJOR dental work right now, so I can apprecitate the decisions you're trying to make. I chose the more expensive route (bridge) versus a root canal. Even though this meant having a tooth extracted, it was still was a very easy decision for me. 5 years ago I had a root canal and crown done on one of my teeth. About a month and a half later I developed FM, CFS and MCS and have been battling these things ever since. Although my chiroprator had asked if I had any dental work done, she never got specific about the root canal (don't know if she knew about the harm they can cause), so I never connected it as the source for my illnesses. Since it's been a few years, I actually forgot that I had it done. I remember the crown, but forgot about the root canal. In fact, when I filled out the questionnaire at my new dentist, I answered " no " to the question on root canals. My recent dental x-rays revealed that I did have a root canal done and have a serious infection in that root canal. I'm not trying to scare you, but for me, I will never risk another root canal putting me through what I've been through for the last five years. I feel for you as I know how expensive this stuff is. Dentists really seem to be pushing root canals, even as a preventive measure. My dentist is out of my insurance network, but the lower level of coverage is worth the peace of mind I have now. After my extraction 2 weeks ago, I came down with a cold - the first one I've had in several years. I look at dental work a lot differently now. It's funny, I've been reading a lot about the harms of root canals over the past year, but I never had a clue that I had a bad one right inside of me. Guest guest
hi wow! you have been through alot also!! ~What I don't understand is why my other dentist was so anxious to do root canal when there is no decay in that tooth.. it is just fractured ... I guess it just depends on the dentist you go to.. each dentist is going to say something different as has been my case :/ jen Re: ROOT CANAL > > > I need help making a decision regarding toothwork. > > , > > I've been looking for a more holistic dentist for some time as I > haven't been back to my old dentist in 5 years. My old dentist thought I needed one on one of my other teeth, but I never ended up going back to him (thankfully). Shortly after this (and after the other stuff set in) my TMJ took a turn for the worse and my jaw completely dislocated requiring some minor surgery. So, going to the dentist just wasn't on my list of things to do. However, it's 5 years later now and I still don't need a root canal on that tooth. My old dentist is a relative of my husband and I'm sure his intentions were good, I just think it's the way conventional dental practice has progressed. I'm 35, a few years older than you, and I'm right about where my Mother was when she got her first bridge. I get my bad teeth from her side. So far, I haven't inherited the osteoporosis that she and my grandmother suffer/ed from. You're too young to be going through all of this. Guest guest
This isn't the same topic exactly. Was reading in Rolling Stone Magazine last week that when Marie Presley was so sick after with what was diagnosed as CFS by doctors across the country, that it turned out to be mercury fillings. She finally went to a naturopath who diagnosed it, she had them removed, and her symptoms went away almost immediately. Wasn't but it made good print at the time. :-) Wanita At 06:34 PM 4/19/03 +0000, you wrote: >I had a root canal and crown done on one of my teeth. I've been wanting to get rid of my old mercury fillings for a long time. Now they're coming out just because I have to have crowns and bridges put on those teeth. My dentist removed the mercury as part of the prep work for this dental work. Yippee! All of it should be gone in the next month or so. I'm hoping the taste of metal in my mouth goes away. Guest guest
Jen, I strongly advise against the root canal. After reading Meinig's book, I've been doing follow-up research. Unfortunately, I can't get many articles I find abstracts of in full- text, and most of the good ones are in German (?!), but from abstracts and a couple full-texts I've seen, the data seems at worst to reluctantly support Meinig's thesis. Since you've had so many problems, you are all the more likely to suffer from a focal infection from a root canal. I have an appointment on June 23 with the closest dentist I could find that follows the extraction protocol to talk about having my two root canals removed. I am 99.99999999% sure my eczema is due to my root canals, not to mention my chronic conjunctivitis and periodontitis. The first two I know to have originated within 1-2 weeks of my root canal. My eczema has gotten so bad that it spread from my wrists to my entire arms, from my fingers to half-way up my upper arms. A patch developed on my ear before I started Russ Newman's candida protocol, and disappeared shortly after the protocol. However, I never made significant progress with the rest of my eczema-- some progress, but certainly not gone. Since I've been off the protocol, patches have appeared on my legs! I just started taking colostrum from RL, and so far it seems very promising. Everyone has been saying it looks a lot better. One day I only got 4 hours sleep and it got noticably worse. All this points to immune dysfunction. It started within a week of my first root canal... put 2 and 2 together. I developed chronic conjunctivitis within a week or two of my root canal. 4 tbsp coconut oil would suppress it, but when I would slack on the CO it would come back. This happened for several months. Then I started eating raw meat-- half pound of raw grass-fed buffalo swiss steak a week. This boosted my immune system enough that I could go w/o coconut oil for a while and I would not develop conjunctivitis. However, during Lent I've been not eating meat except fish and therefore haven't had my raw meat for over a month, and I've developed conjunctivitis TWICE since not eating meat! (it had been gone for like 6 months) The first time I beat it off my dropping lots of colloidal silver/MSM in my eye. This time (current) I'm out of MSM but put some CS in it and stepped up my CO and it looks like it's going away. You've been through a lot more than I had been through, therefore I would think your system a very unlikely candidate for being able to suppress a focal infection. I would NOT get a root canal. Good luck, Chris p.s. if you want to respond to this, cc it to my private address as I do not get a chance to check the list every day. --- In , " Evely " <je@h...> wrote: > I need help making a decision regarding toothwork. Guest guest
This post couldn't be more timely for me as I sit here in root canal agony! I recently (last summer) had two root canals done. Both were with biocalex. One was a 're-do' of an older, traditional type root canal. The other tooth had an infection in the root that showed up on an x-ray. The tooth that had the infection is now giving me a great deal of grief. I know the infection is back because my jaw is aching in that particular spot. I have recently read that if the root is infected to begin with, there is a very minimal chance that root canal surgery will be successful. This has been my experience. I've had two root canals that, after being done and redone by endodontists, eventually had to be pulled. I'm a root canal flunkie... Tara > > Can I have some opinions on root canals.
