I have made it. Love it. I have problem skin and it really helps to clear

it up. I wont go back to storebought. Using a moisturizer is recommended.

Colleen, have you tried shea butter on your spots?

Shaey

Do you use it? What are the benefits of it? Any reactions to skin

when using it?

I've got sensitive skin and don't necessarily have a reaction to the

makeup I'm using, or the facial products. However, I do have red

spots/blotches on my face constantly. I use facial

cleanser/toner/moisturizer for sensitive skin. It doesn't irritate my

skin, but it doesn't clear up the spots either.

Anyone have any comments on mineral makeup? Thanks!

I've always wanted to try it. I see those infomercials for Bare

Essentials Mineral Makeup and am always tempted to order it but it's SO

pricey. I know I've seen a few soaping/cosmetic suppliers sites offer

the ingredients to make your own but haven't ventured there yet, either.

Even on those sites it doesn't seem very cheap to make. But maybe it is

in the long run. Shaye, fill us in a little on who you buy the

ingredients from and how difficult it is to make it. Did you waste a

lot of product trying to get it to the color you wanted? Have you tried

selling it yet?

It sounds like the ingredients are expensive, but a little goes a LONG LONG

way. An ounce of mica is quite a bit. Mineral Make-ups are made in grams

unless you're making a ton for orders. I'll working on a few classes right

now that I will be offering online - lip balms, lip glosses, lotion bars,

mineral make-up, and a few other things. Some of them will be combined into

1 class. Lip balms are so easy and fast.

Me too ! I just came across an ad in a magazine & thought maybe I

would give it a try. I'll have to wait till I get some cash though

because it is expensive!

, its not expensive if you already have oxides on hand which I think

most of us do since we make soaps. You just need a few other things.I made

some a while back and managed to match up my skin but it did take a little

tweeking and I think unfortunatly I forgot to take notes. I am getting low

on what I made so its time to play again. And I've done some eye shadows

too and attempted a blush but it wasnt the best. Since then I havnt made

the time to play too much so I havnt sold any but it is one of those goals

of mine. This time I will be sure and take notes! LOL

I'll have a couple of suppliers and I'll look up the website of a gal who

has TONS of supplies and I'll email you. Or I beleive Monave has kits if

im not mistaken.

Glad it's not constant. Do you use hypoallergenic make-up?

No. It's not a constant thing. It all depends on the weather/season,

and my mood. LOL! Needless to say that stress tends to cause more

splotches than no stress. :)

Katy,

I make mineral makeup, or should I say " mix " it. Because you buy the ingredients

and it's just a matter of mixing a formula to your liking and skin tone.

I've purchased two hobby kits from Monave. It was $35 for foundation and $30 for

lipsticks. To me it wasn't worth it. It didn't explain much. And it was a little

product for lots of money.

Later on I found Coastal Scents and their professional kit is $199, but it was

SOOOOO worth it. Lots of product, lots of instructions, lots of everything. I

did a fair this past summer and from that $199, I made 10 times as much money.

And I still have LOTS of product left.

Their kits comes with an 82 page book of instructions, this is worth the price

to me, IMHO. I searched for months and months on the internet on how to make

mineral makeup and everything was just half explained. This is really a whole

product and there's an additional 125 pieces, which includes the minerals, base

powders, etc.

I know this is costly, but your daughter can surely start her own business with

this kit.

They also have sets already made, a 13 piece one for only $42. And smaller sets

for less.

I highly recommed Kathy and at Costal Scents. If you have any questions

they answer your email with 24 hours.

Marisol in Brooklyn

PS: If you need extra packaging, you can check out kaleidoscopecosmetics.com or

just buy them from Costal Scents. The reason I get them from

kaleidoscopecosmetics.com is that they have the clear tabs to cover the sifters,

which if you don't have them, the powders get all over the packaging.

Let me know if you need more help. I love mineral makeup.

Again, Marisol in B.

cost (living on a budget now!) and she commented that I should start

making it. Well, I'm not sure it's cheaper to make your own (because

I've never made it) but I thought that maybe I could come up with some

sort of kit for her this year and stick that in her stocking. Let her do

it herself. Does anyone know where I can find premade kits or point me

in the direction of a good vendor for supplies? Thanks!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I buy the bare esentials but did try making my own a few years back

using ingredients I purchased through someone on our list. I believe it

had a zinc oxide base with titanium dioxide and the micas. I burned two

coffee/herb grinder up blending it and then it really dried my face out

for some reason. ;( Wish I could make one as good as the one I am

presently going broke on buying.

Hi

Has anyone ever made this themselves (like the Bare Essentials type).

I use a lot of this in the summer months and was thinking of trying to

make it. Looking for advice.

Hi ,

I make mineral makeup, and it's doing very well. I did a LOT of research

before I even ventured into making it. The first thing you want to do is

investigate ingredients, because there are a LOT of them in different

formulations. The best part is once you figure out what you want to do,

it's easy!

You'll need to get a good gram scale that goes to .01 grams - that's a

must. Write down everything you do precisely so you can remember it. The

key is consistency. The hardest part is developing colors. It takes a lot

of trial and error. You'll possibly be putting greens and blues into

foundation colors, and it doesn't make sense at first, but it will all gel

in your head once you see what they all do.

Look at other mineral makeup sites and see what ingredients they're using.

I've compiled a list of some of the ingredients for my customers to look at

that might help get you on your way:

http://www.saphoros.com/ingredient_article.htm

Another good resource for info and ingredients is TKB Trading (

www.tkbtrading.com). Kaila Westerman is a wonderful person - very helpful -

and has beginner kits with recipes and everything available at reasonable

prices.

Good luck and have fun!
