Maybe you could try this breath. Janeen came up with it a few years ago.

Here is her post to another list that is no longer active. She gave me

permission to share it with others.

Hello O Friends!

Here it is. The LAST of the Abs exercises! The deep breathing method for

flatter abs. Yea for flatter and stronger abs!! Go Abs go! Doin' a jig!

Doin'

a jig! (Geez! What was in my smoothie this morning?!)

Alrighty then! Below is a description of a deep breathing method which will

help you develop stronger abs, as well as help you combat that shallow

breathing that many of us unfortunately do throughout our day.

Many of you will recognize this breathing method, because it was dubbed

" Janeen's Breathing. " I've always been uncomfortable calling it that, SO how

would you feel if we called it " SANEsational Breathing " ? I think this name

fits perfectly because:

1) We can do it all throughout the day, without people knowing we're doing

it.

2) By getting in 40 of these breaths daily, you can take the pressure off

yourself if you weren't able to get a good breathing workout in during that

particular day.

3) This breathing method complements any workout routine.

4) You can do 3-5 of these breaths between each weightlifting set, which

provides you a cross-training workout.

Therefore, you can remain sane and still feel incredible! Other benefits

people are getting from this breathing method are: inch loss, stress relief,

better mental clarity and a sense of empowerment knowing they can get some

good deep breathing in regardless of where they are.

How did this breathing method come about? I hit my size goal around the

beginning of this year. I am out and about a lot, and I still wanted to

continue deep breathing and be incognito. I would find myself breathing

shallowly throughout the day, and this really has curbed that too. My

purpose

for developing this way of breathing is so we CAN do it in public without

attracting any attention to ourselves.

While experimenting with this breathing technique for one month, I did

Bodyflex and Campitelli only a couple of times. With just doing this breath,

I still lost 1-1/2 pounds and my stomach got so much harder. I can see my

obliques running from my sides to my hips and the 6-pack muscles are more

visible. My stomach is very much harder than before I started doing this

breathing method. It has

affected my entire stomach -- lower and upper. I had no clue I would lose

weight and improve my stomach while " just breathing. "

Here is the description:

1. Inhale through your nose, however you want -- really hard, as if you are

inhaling the entire room, or like a normal breath (if you need to remain

incognito). (I do both, depending on where I am.)

When inhaling, first fill your lower lungs as much as you possibly can. To

practice getting your form right, you will look pregnant when you've filled

your lower lungs. Then you can fill the remaining top portion of your lungs.

If you are new to diaphragmatic breathing, you may need a little bit of

practice.

2. Add a couple more inhale sniffs, so that your entire lungs are completely

filled with oxygen.

3. Hold for a second.

4. The emphasis is put on the exhale: exhale through your mouth slow and

controlled, but the whole time contract your stomach muscles and pull them

HARD and TIGHT toward the upper part of your spine, pushing out all of the

stale air in your lungs.

5. When you feel as if you've already exhaled all the air you can, really GO

FOR IT, and squeeze your stomach muscles even harder toward your spine. Make

your stomach BURN, BURN, BURN while you are exhaling. You may find that you

are able to exhale even a little more air. (Sometimes I will have a long,

controlled exhale that lasts 12 or more seconds.)

If you can't feel the burn, but are contracting your stomach muscles the

best

you can, you ARE still getting benefits. Sometimes mine don't burn depending

on the situation I'm in or where I am doing these breaths.

(When you exhale, EVERYTHING in your body is relaxed, except your stomach

muscles, including your lips. During the exhale, your lips should be

slightly

open and very relaxed. They are open just enough to slowly let the stale air

out without attracting any attention. Stop exhaling before your face starts

to get red. Relax. And start the breath again. When I first started this

breath, I couldn't contract my stomach muscles for as long as I am able to

now. )

6. Do this again, as often as you can, or don't do it again. It's up to you!

Just as long as you are making your stomach BURN, and you get in 40 or more

breaths by the time you go to bed. But, for maximum benefits do as many

consecutive breaths as possible.

(If your muscles aren't strong enough to pull in your stomach at this time,

just focus on exhaling all of your stale air. Do your best. That's all you

can ask of yourself!

While exhaling, visualize your stomach pulling in toward your spine.

Visualization is a powerful method to achieve incredible results.)

I do these deep breaths all throughout the day: while cooking, putting on

makeup, driving, watching television, working on the computer, and really,

whenever I think to do so.

Some suggestions on how to keep track of how many breaths you've done:

1. If you do 3 breaths every 1/2 hour, after 5 hours you will have done 30

breaths. After 8 hours you will have done 48. Do what feels comfortable to

you!

2. Some people have made a necklace with 41 colored beads, with one bead

larger than the others. After each breath, move one small bead to the other

side of the large bead. By the time you've done 40 breaths, all of the small

beads should be on the other side of the large bead from where they started.

3. While at work, you can put a dish of 40 marbles, popcorn seeds, etc., on

one side of your desk. After each breath you transfer 1 marble to an empty

dish on the other side of your desk, computer, etc., until that dish is full

and you've done 40 breaths.

4. Use your imagination and creativity. Make it fun!!!

You might find that after a day or two, your stomach muscles may be sore.

But

it's a good sore. The soreness subsides after a while, but I've noticed that

when I REALLY put more effort into my exhale I really feel it the next day.

By doing my breaths this way, I really can only do 3 at a time, and then I

need to rest for a couple of seconds. BUT, the efforts are well worth it! My

abs are the hardest they have ever been in my life.

I like to get in around 10-20 of these before bed, while watching television

(around 3-5 days a week.) Doing this winds me down.

The important thing to realize is that the deep breathing is the key to ALL

of this, no matter which type of deep breathing you use. If you are

interested in the specific breath I use, try it, and if there is something

you don't like about it, then fool with it a little, to where you DO like it

and will do it. Make it personal, and something you feel comfortable doing.

Otherwise, you most likely won't do it.

And remember! While on the road to weight loss, speed is not the key. This

isn't a race. Perseverance is the key, and of course, believing in

yourselves.

" With ordinary talent and extraordinary

perseverance, all things are attainable. "

--Sir Foxwell Buxton

Such is the case with attaining our health and fitness goals. By deep

breathing we are improving our health and mind. The weight loss, in my

opinion, is just a side benefit; an added bonus!

Keep the faith, and of course,

Keep On Keeping On!

Janeen came up with the breath before Darlene brought LifeLift to our

attention. Soooo, we thought BodyFlex was the only breathing workout. I

don't think we had even discovered Oxycise at this point yet either! LOL,

it was quite a while ago that Janeen came up with this breath. We talked

about marketing it, but she decided to become a personal trainer instead.

The Campitelli method is simply free weights for beginners. It is a video

series. Many people do this or Joyce Vedral. Both offer good beginning

free weight workouts so you develop lean muscle mass and burn more fat and

achieve the body of your dreams faster. :-)

After reading this post, I realized that probably only one other person on

this list would have a clue what some of the stuff was talking about so

thought I should clarify it. :-)

I think I may try this breath, but I had rad how to do the bikini

breath before, and I don't beleive this is it. Am I wrong? I

thought the bikini breath involved inhaling to a certain count, hold

to a certain count and exhaling to a certain count. It is a 1/4/2

ratio I beleive. It is also dubbed the Toni Robbins breath. I may

have missed earlier post about this subject, so I may be a litttle

lost. I like this breath better and may give it a try during the day

when I do my extra breaths. Thanks for the info.

Hi Jen,

No, the BBB (Baywatch Bikini Breath) is the Tony Robbins breath. This a

completely different breath that is great for firming those abs up. :-)

-Thanks alot!! i tried this breath today. When you do it are you

suppose to exhale all the air out first, then sniff, or just go right

into the inhale. I blew everything out first. It made me light

headed though. I don't know if those extra sniffs gave me more

oxygen than I'm used too, or if I was hold too long. But I had a

incredible rush of energy. Even more than i get from LL. I could

only do a few at a time though, because i was driving and didn't want

to pass out. Thanks for this info though!!!!
