Guest guest
Liz, does she have trouble swallowing? or breathing or does she just get clogged up in her esophogus? Hang in there, I'm praying for you. Love, Workout on Friday / My Mom Hi Breathers, Today I did 100 LL breaths working my abs, buns, obliques, quads., and face. I did 45 this morning and the rest tonight. I also did a Pilates tape and worked out with weights. My mom went home tonight. All of her tests came out ok. They're sending her to a heart doctor. Honestly I think the problem has nothing to do with her heart. She has a lot of phlegm that builds in her throat that she gags on after she eats. She's had this problem for a long time and it's getting progressively worse. She's had a scope done in the past and even had some kind of procedure that opened up some blockage in her throat a couple of years ago that helped for a while. So hopefully they're going to look into that problem. Kista has had this procedure done also so I guess it's hereditary. This makes about 4 times that my mom has gone to the emergency room thinking she was having a heart attack and they couldn't find anything wrong with her. The doctor that she had in the hosp. thinks that the blockage or whatever is going on in her throat is causing stress on the heart and that's why she feels like she's having a heart attack. Please continue to pray for her. Thanks!!! Love, Liz
Guest guest
Hi , The problem started several years a go when she choked while eating hot dogs then she got to the point that she had to use a straw when she drank anything otherwise she would also choke. I don't know which problem started 1st the hot dogs or the drinking problem. This past year she started having problems with the phlegm but we think that it's all connected. Thanks for your prayers!!! Love ya!!! Guest guest
The reason I asked Liz is that this is the same thing my mom went through. She drinks everything through a straw. One thing you might check into is dysphasia (sp) It is problems dealing with the esophogus. Please keep me posted on her tests, I'm praying for you. Guest guest
You're welcome. It is really frustrating to go through that I know just from watching my mom. That is why she finally had to get a g-tube put in. She was choking on her food and also had and still has alot of phlegm. Hers is caused by her muscular dystrophy but you can have dysphasia without having MD. I believe dysphysia has to do with the esophogus. In my moms case, the muscle in her esophogus no longer works and so when she tries to eat she has a hard time swallowing and she has a chance of it going into her lungs. Guest guest
I'm glad I could be of help. It seems to be kind of commom anymore and there are different things that can cause it. Mom went to a speach therapist to learn some exercises to help her to swallow a little better. I'm glad we got the tube though because she can get her nourishment through that and then nibble on her pleasure foods in between. Let me know what you find out.
