Yes, Caitilin, quite likely.

Make sure you are drinking plenty of water as well - VERY important.

You could get bad detox symptoms if you don't.

When you first drink KT it is advised to drink smaller amounts and to build

up from there ....and don't forget your water ;-)

Glad you love your glorified tea so much!

Off to having some myself!

Yep, Caitilin, I agree ;-)

Psychologically, I fix it this way:

I down my glass of water, pat myself on the shoulder for being a good

girl, and then give myself as reward a glass of Kombucha.

I, too am not the greatest water drinker in the world ....

Hi

Same here.. I KNOW that I must drink a lot of water... I sincerely KNOW , I

" grok " it but ...water is so boring, I have found however that using a water

bottle, does wonder for me, a liter one, I refill it at least 4 times a day

sometimes more... which is wonderful.. I still do not like water :( ..

I do ingest at least half a liter of KT everyday, often a whole liter... What a

treat!! Especially when drunk in a wine glass.. and this thing is good for

you?? A true blessing!! :D

I've read the magic formula for water consumption is a minumum of 1/2

oz /per pd (or about 20ml/kilo) of body weight. I drink about a gallon

of water a day and about 32oz of water kefir a day. Now, with that in

mind, can I drink all the kombucha I want? lol. I'm drinking my second

batch and loving the stuff. My wish list for Christmas is going to be

a container big enough to do continuous brew :)

Hi... All I know is that if I drink the right amount of water with my KTea that

everything works much better,,, must be a synergeisting thing... A lot easier

for me nice I started doing the Distilled water thingie.... But the thing I

remember most is that dehydration causes more problems than anything else you

can do to your body..

Greetings,

So. I'm doing the Doug Kelsey method of improving knee cartilage and I've hit a

low point and I wanted to ask some of you joint-motion folks out there for

advice.

A couple of weeks ago my knees were feeling pretty good (for them, not for a

normal person). I had been doing the total gym every day (and his other

exercises) and it seemed to be helping. Then I think I overdid it on some

stuff--thought I could handle it-- then my knees started to feel not-so-good

again. We're not talking a lot of overdoing, just a slightly longer walk that

included a few very small hills, plus trying a couple of exercises that I don't

think I was ready for in his phase two. So I lowered one rung on the total gym

and just kept on but my left knee in particular is just aggravated. It seems

like new pains are cropping up. It's weird. I took a day off a few days ago.

The past couple of days I tried adding some stationary bike stuff (20 min,

lowest resistance), which feels pretty good while doing it, but ... I don't

know, overall it seems like my left knee is simply aggravated.

Those of you who have made progress... can you speak to this?

Thanks all,

Jenni

Jenni,

Sorry to hear of your setback ... a few thoughts:

1. There will always be setbacks, even if you're on the best path to healing.

I'm convinced of this after my own experience. The key thing is not to chuck the

baby with the bathwater. You may have to make a few adjustments (I did that a

lot). One of my regrets in writing my book: I never felt I adequately conveyed

the up-and-down nature of healing; there are frustrating periods (that can last

a few days or weeks) where you think you've backslid and aren't getting better.

Just remember: healing isn't linear; every day (or week) isn't necessarily

better than the preceding one.

2. You do the total gym every day, you say. I don't know what your program is,

but I hope you're building in easy days. You sound a bit like me: " I want to

heal, and I want to heal as soon as I can, and I'll do whatever it takes. " A

great attitude, but: you have to pace yourself. One of the hardest things for me

was taking " off " days -- dialing it back a little and not pushing myself all the

time.

3. Be careful of overdoing -- it's very, very easy. Remember your knee cartilage

doesn't have nerve endings, so you're not getting good, timely signaling when

you're pushing a bit too hard. I found that I tended to get delayed signaling --

knee will be achy later that day, or the next day. Ideally, I think knee pain

patients should be on the program where they're a little too conservative --

where they think, " Gosh, I can do these exercises already, so I should be doing

something harder, working out on Level B instead of Level A. " Gradually you do

need to work your joints harder, so you do need to graduate to Level B, but if

you're a Type A personality (which I was, and you may be), that won't be your

main problem. Your main problem will be learning to take it easy when you need

to.

4. Remember whenever you introduce a new TYPE of activity, you should be

prepared for knee feedback, and it may not be fun. You said you started going up

hills. Well, if you haven't been going up hills, this activity will probably tax

your knees in slightly different ways. I know they were small hills, but you're

still early days on fixing your joints, which are probably still weak and just

gradually getting stronger.

5. Agree with Larry: you may want to focus on the stationary bike for a while,

if that's what your knees like. Also taking a week off every five or six weeks

is a good idea -- very hard for me to do (I never took it totally " off, " but

just rather made my program very easy for that week, so I was still getting in

movement).

Anyway, hope things improve soon!

Curious how many days in a row you would go without taking a day off? Your body

heals and grows muscle when you rest. Exercise is a form of stress that when

done well results in more growth of muscle and capillary capacity, during rest.

Too much stress and not enough rest results in loss of muscle and certainly of

energy. So ideally you have regular cycles of stress rest, every couple of days,

and in the macro sense, every couple of weeks. Knee or no knee problem, all

people exercising should take at least one day off per week.

I found short very hard pushes were good for my knees. Long steady pressure

tends to make them worse. So climbing a big hill on a bike is good, pushing for

30 minutes into a head wind is bad.

By the way, the bike has often aggravated my knee the most. I have been able to

use the bike though for exercise by adapting somewhat.

Larry, , and Philip, thank you so much for the thoughts. Yeah, I wasn't

really building in easy days or days off. What do ya know, I took a day off

yesterday because I had to and the irritation has calmed down a lot. I'm going

to take a couple more easy days, maybe just doing the bike or total gym for 15

minutes and going home. Thank you for reminding me about this, and yes,

, I don't want to take days off... but if it will help, that does change

things!

The best thing is hearing that you guys experienced bad times too, and that you

got information from them, and then got through them! That helps me a TON.

My (former) PT tried the plunger thing and freakin torturing my IT bands too. I

don't know if I felt anything from it (besides a lot of pain)... but I did stop

seeing him. Maybe if I had kept it up for longer it would have helped more.

The thing is, I'm not really convinced that my kneecaps go over to the side that

much. It doesn't seem like it. They don't visibly go to the outside when I

flex my quads, and if I bend my knee and hold onto my kneecap they seem to stay

in the middle. I remember my original x-ray showed them both tilted a little

out, but I'm wondering if that's normal at all.

Really thankful for this email group!

Jenni :)

and in the macro sense, every couple of weeks.

Subject: overdoing it?

Greetings,

Thanks all,

Jenni
