Lip Balm Question

Most Flavor Oils aren't sweetened. And because of this, " Flavor " oil

is kind of a misnomer. It's labeled as a flavor oil because that means

it's approved for use in lip products. I don't sweeten any of my lip

balms because it encourages people to lick their lips, which makes the

lip balms not only ineffective, but will cause the user's lips to

become even more chapped. There are many out there that sweeten their

lip balms, and from conversations I've witnessed over the years, many

more that don't sweeten them. It's really a personal decision. I sell

thousands of lip balms a year. I even just started selling lip balm

bases, and will soon be bringing in lip balm flavor oils, and none of

them are pre-sweetened.

Now if your oils came marked as " fragrance oils " and not " flavor

oils " , then do NOT use them in lip balms. They may be skin safe, but

skin safe doesn't mean lip safe. If you're unsure in any way, contact

the manufacturer. It's possible they sent you the wrong thing. If they

didn't, then they need to work on their website if this kind of a

mistake is happening.

Have fun making the lip balms! I've got several hundred peppermint

ones to make tonight!

I don't thin you should use a fragrance oil in place of a flavor oil unless

you know it's lip safe. No you don't have to add sweeteners to flavor oils

even if they aren't sweetened. With kids I think it's enjoyed but you don't

have to add the sweetener. But anyway, I'd check to see if that fragrance

oil is lip safe before using it and especially selling it.

I recently ordered a few flavor oils for lip balms. I must have made a

mistake entering the order, because one of the oils is actually a

fragrance oil. I have made lip balms with essential oils (peppermint)

and they came out wonderful; but not with FO. Would I need to add a

sweetner to a fragrance oil? Do you always need a sweetner with a

flavor oil - I used it yesterday (bubble gum balms) becuase it enhanced

the bubble gum flavor oil, and kids like that intense flavor.

I am interested in others opinions - thanks.

I made a lip balm once with peppermint EO and GSE as a naturaal

preservative.

Over time, It made my lips VERY dry, and formed a scab kind of on my lips.

Has anyone had that experience? I thought maybe it was too much Peppermint

EO but I tried making one with MUCH less and I got the same reaction.

Any suggestions?

Thanks Ivana,

It's supposed to be 100% EOs so let me check the packaging again or buy from

another vendor and try it again.

I have to agree Peppermint E.O. is softening to the lips. And maybe you

contaminated ,your other balm, and reintroduced back to your lips. That's why

I like pots better, just no Double Dipping.Lavender E.O. is another one to

add,it helps with buggies spreading ,it is anti fungal and anti

bacterial.HTH

Hello,

We use pots too, stainless steel canisters to be exact. The product

is already great but then to highlight it and make it more special in

a pot is better I think. A tube is just a run of the mill kinda thing

that we see at every checkout stand in every supermarket etc., Here's

our version: http://sensatia.com/face/essentials/lip_protection.php

though we are still waiting for our canisters to be produced in Java.

Our old producer changed the size on us, talk about making me crazy.

So in the end I decided to " print " my own, and it was reasonably

cheap (8x cheaper than my old supplier) and of better quality, so in

the end it seems someone is watching over us! hahaha.

Good luck! Keep the pot.

Have a great day,

Hi Ester, well, I am producing these stainless pots in Surabaya on

the island of Java in Indonesia. Though my company is a US

corporation, I live most of the year in Bali, Indonesia. It's always

summer, and the waves are great for surfing ;-) What more could I ask

for? hahahaha.

Hi Trudie,

Thank you, that means alot coming from someone who has a beautiful

website as well. Very nice, I really like the cleanliness of it and

as you can probably tell I am a fan of b & w, so your site is quite

striking to me. Did you do it yourself or have someone build it???

Take care,

Have a great day,
