This is why I've always felt strongly that if you plan on building a

website, that learning how to do updates, add new products (etc) is

something you need to learn to do for yourself. I love the look of

professionally designed websites, but I also know of a number of

soapers whose sites have been professionally designed (usually to the

tune of at least several hundred dollars), but sit stagnant because

they don't know how to properly optimize it or how to update it. They

have to wait upon their designer to make even the smallest

adjustments. There are so many programs out there that make building

your own website a breeze (and many that are not so easy), that it may

be better worth your time, even with a " kick-@$$ graphic designer " in

your home, to start on it yourself. My husband was the one who

initially taught me the basics, but I quickly surpassed him, and now

he comes to me when he has questions regarding website building, and

optimization. I love the creative side of soap-making, but I've also

seriously come to realize in the last couple years that being creative

is not enough. Not if you want to move it past a hobby and into a

business. Luckily, in the last year, I've learned that I also LOVE the

business side of it. Since I know this group is a non-advertizing

group, if anyone is interested in places to get business growing tips,

contact me privately.

This is one reason that I luuuuurv my web guy. He made an admin page

for me, so that I can update all aspects of my website by myself. I

can add or delete products, put them on sale, have a newsletter that I

change periodically. I can change the about page, the FAQ page--all of

it is controlled by me.

Love it!

I haven't really done much with blogging, even though my husband keeps

telling me I need to. I have too many projects on my plate right now

to add anything new, like blogging. But I do read up on it. They have

a quite a few plus features, and very little negative.

+1: Most of them are free to create and free to maintain.

+2: You can add google ads and make some money when people click

through on them. IMO they're often tacky on websites, but expected on

blogs.

+3: They're usually (I believe, if my memory is serving right),

they're indexed quickly and frequently by search engines, so if you

use key word optimization well, you can get good search results with

your blog.

The hardest things about blogging is getting good traffic, and keeping

your content fresh (which will get you return traffic). I'd recommend

you sign up for Alice Seba's free mini course on blogging (just do a

google search on her and blogging). There are a lot of mini-courses

out there by a lot of different people that can give you a tremendous

amount of help on most things regarding the internet. Do a search on

" blogging tips " and you'll get quite a few hits back on it. I haven't

looked through the links, so I don't know the quality of their info,

but since I don't have a lot of experience in it myself, I figured

you'd probably be better off with that than me. I know a lot about the

internet, you just happened to pick one of the things I haven't

established as part of my routine yet.

Good luck!
