Hello,

After reviewing all of the information that everyone so generously provided,

I plunged into bath bomb production!

I took 2 cups of my dry ingredients, slowly added 2 1/2 Tbls of coconut oil

(this is all that I had on hand but would assume other oils like olive or

sweet almond would have worked as well) and 1 1/2 Tbls water and 4 drops

rose oil. I also lightly spitzed the entire batch with witch hazel. I did

not have any suitable molds to do so I formed the mixture into balls. I

have made handrolled soap balls so I was able to make the bath bomb firm and

surprisingly exactly 4oz.! I let the bombs dry overnight and gave one to my

daughter, who is six, to try in the tub. She loved it and it fizzed like

crazy.

So Thank you, thank you!

Dear ,

How WONDERFUL!!! I think that your necessity (only Cocunut Oil) worked into a

wonderful " invention " ! I can see that coconut oil would be luscious in this

application.

As to you being able to scoop out JUST enough for each bomb? Well now that's

PURE expertise! Please thank your Darling Daughter for her efforts in product

testing and verification! <grin>

And thank you so much for the feedback. I know that probably lots of people

contributed to your effort, and it was so thoughtful of you to let us ALL know

how successful your effort was.

We are all coming at this " toiletries " thing from different perspectives... had

it not been for consistent joy and exultation (as well as troubleshooting!),

THIS Bath Bomb/Salt/Creme maker would NEVER have tried to make soap with lye!

Mutual encouragement and sharing is the backbone of these lists... thank you SO

much!

Love,

Cyn

Hi ,

I don't know about expertise... maybe more like beginner's luck! :)

I would like to try other oils in the recipe to see what a difference it

would make. I worried about using the coconut oil because I know that in

soapmaking it is very drying to the skin. Maybe olive oil would be better.

I agree that this list is a valuable resource... just a few years ago it may

have taken a long time for me to find the information that I was looking for

and even then it may not have worked!

Thank you again :)

Hi ,

I know what you mean then by scooping out the right amount, I also work as

the graphic designer here at SunFeather and I can tell when something is off

by an 1/8 of an inch. Drives me crazy though, I am always straightening

pictures on the wall. :)

I was thinking about the coconut oil and I wonder if it is drying in soaps

because it makes so much lather? Whereas an olive oil soap doesn't and it

isn't drying? I didn't notice it being drying as an oil in the bombs... hmm

something to wonder.:)

I found a very basic recipe on the net:

2 Cups Baking Soda

1 Cup Corn Starch

1 Cup Citric Acid

You mix these ingredients well together, add color and FO/EO to

desire. It will foam a bit. Spritz enough Witch Hazel on to be able

to make a ball. Be careful not to over-spritz as it will take out a

lot of the fizz.

I have not had luck making balls with my hands, but I have used an

ice cream scoop with success. Some have used Melon Ballers for

smaller bath bombs. Then some people have gone all out and bought

bath bomb presses for 400 to 600 dollars, and I have heard that for

the most part, they are a waste of money, and one unit had a recipe

that they didn't want to admit to the buyer that didn't work.

I made bath bombs with this recipe with some " tweaks " of my own to

the recipe, and used the ice cream scoop, and they came out looking

like mint ice cream scoops, and they work just great, and smell great.

There will be cracks in the scoops/balls, and if you are really

worried about the cracks, wet your finger with witch hazel and go

over the crack with your finger. Some cracks add to the " character, "

I think.

Good luck with your bath bombs!!!
